I think it has potential, although this first attempt probably will be worn at most as a house dress (the white muslin is a little flimsy & see through!) I have a nice print cotton I want to try it in now that I know it will work.

How about a full slip underneath? Like a simple shell-style in white or cream?
You did a wonderful job on it!

Wow, it's been ages since I last posted anything here! I was so inspired looking at all the lovely things that everyone has been making, soooo I made a dress. I used a 1960's pattern, couldn't tell you which one as I am too lazy to go and find the packet! I used a light weight wooly material. Please excuse the thermal tights draped over the radiator, it's been snowing here! (Newcastle, UK)

Thanks Miss Stella! I was thinking about trying that. I have a very simple underdress that is the wrong color but I think the shape might work so maybe I'll lay it out on some more of that muslin and try to copy it.

CarolineH - I think you're right - great potential on such a classic, easy to wear shape. And after you've make 37 of them, it may actually be the one hour dress! lol

While this apron will not win awards for complexity, it scores high in the Make Do and Mend category. It's a re-purposed tablecloth.

Hey wow! I just bought this book but am feeling too poor for material at the moment. I hope mine turns out as well as yours! Was it easy? I am not the best of sewers!

If I make that many I'm sure it will be! According to the book the record at the time was 34 minutes!

I wasn't sure exactly how that was supposed to work so I looked at the variations she suggested at the back and decided on the plaits instead. Then I sewed the skirt sections to the bodice before I did the side seams and just made one long seam from sleeve bottom to skirt bottom on each side.

BoPeep, I love your apron, especially since it is re-purposed material!

Thanks Miss Stella. To be honest, I was worried about the slipperiness and had quite a bit of fuss when I was doing the layout and cutting. The sewing of the slip was a breeze. Emy, actually it wasn't too hard. I just followed the basic instructions except for the skirt. I wasn't sure exactly how that was supposed to work so I looked at the variations she suggested at the back and decided on the plaits instead. Then I sewed the skirt sections to the bodice before I did the side seams and just made one long seam from sleeve bottom to skirt bottom on each side.

I know what you mean, her way of sewing the skirt and top together seems to be a bit weird... maybe I'll stretch to some fabric next month and give it a go!

I think the second skirts is some sort of wool blend.
