I have been largely absent over the last year or so, caring for my father who died this past July, God rest his soul! at age 92. But, out of respect for dear Aurelio (who is still hope to have the honour of meeting in the City, and with better liklihood now that trips there will be less fraught—here's a photo taken at a session of traditional Irish music in Newburyport in December of 2009:

Sorry to hear about your father. I know how hard it is having lost my mother fairly recently and my dad about four years ago. My condolences and the honor will be mine, hope we can meet at some point.

Aureliano, condolences and respect to you as well. I remember your father's passing; we were in closer contact at the time. I am just now (hopefully) within a week or so of closing on my father's house; then the bulk of the issues following his death will have been attended to. The next time I find myself headed to the City, I shall be sure to let you know and we will, hopefully, have that long-awaited pleasure. Sincerely, "Skeet".

Somewhat bizarre...not only have I become accustomed to "seeing" folks in their hats when they post but I even have come to expect some to look like their avatar (read Aureliano, GT Dean) when I know full well that the Avatars aren't real...anyway, surfing and fedoras don't mix in the moment (least not the way I surf) so I didn't have one on this day

Ironically, have been asked to take my hat off, on occasion, by co-workers. Between fedora and my required brain-bucket at work, they've never seen me hatless.

This photo's from about a year ago. Not much has changed, except those sideburns are gone along with that silly little moustache.

Well, you know Tom: God will probably punish me for saying so (because I actually lived through those days....) but: there are very few that can carry either of 'em off. For my money: you did. If you ever decide to grow 'em back in...it won't be the fatal mistake it would be for almost everybody else, at least for my penny's worth. — "Skeet"

Ha, thanks Skeet! You know, I loved those sideburns, the 'stache needs to thicken up, then it can come back. The sideburns, I think they're much more realistic at their less obtrusive length, now. They don't look right on me with a hat, I think. Funny, for how much I loved them, I look at pictures now and go 'what was I thinking?' Guess I'm still growing up!

Dude, you don't surf with your fedora? Looks like you have a couple of nice boards there, Hoss, and I see you have an "Old Guys Rule" t-shirt. I have a couple longboards I use on the North Shore of Massachussetts and in North Carolina. I'm pretty much a kook, but enjoy getting wet anyway. Is that an Element your boards are on?

I know I look like mine. A dear friend of mine, animator who worked for the Simpsons, drew me as such! ;)

Longboards are all that I surf anymore and even that 9' Wave Tool really doesn't float me any longer. I'm looking to build a 10'6" super floaty wood board to carry my 275 lbs to shore. And, yes, it is an Element. My oldest son and I drove down to the Poles near Jax Beach and camped in the Element and surfed for nearly a week a couple years back. The Honda was just about perfect for what we wanted to do. The only issue was dealing with the humidity while trying to sleep but we managed.

Our sleeping arrangement: Seats folded flat; clamshell opened up with a mosquito net to reduce the aggravation
