I was shocked and saddened to hear of Davy Jones's death. The Monkees were my first exposure to pop music as a little kid. I remember my friend Billy and I back in kindergarten and the first grade used to do that synchronized walk they did in the opening title sequence! Such a young age too. Very sad.

Very sad. I was a fan. Sure the show was silly even to a 10 year old but I did like the music.

The Monkees were America's Beatles for a few years. Unless your old enough to remember watching the show you really have no clue on how popular they really were. Lunchboxes, t-shirts, models, fan clubs, albums, concerts, the tv show, hit after hit. Im sure there was a board game along with all the other promo that was out there yet he won't get one 100th of the press that Whitney got when she died.

I was a young boy at the height of the Monkees run on American TV. My friends and I were huge fans. They were my first favorite band. My grandparents bought me their second album and I played it until it wore out. The second song was 'When Love Comes Knocking (At Your Door), one of my favorite Davy Jones Monkees songs.

Three friends of mine and me used to 'sing' an entire Monkees album at a time on my front porch with my record player in the front window. We had steel garbage cans for drums, I had a tennis racket for a guitar, and a green wool hat.

I too was saddened to hear of the loss of Davy Jones. Guess I'm showing my age here, but I remember watching the original airing of him and the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. Like some other Loungers, the Monkees TV show was a favorite of mine as a young lad in the 60's. God speed Davy...hey hey we're ALL the Monkees today!

I grew up with the repeats in the late Seventies / early Eighties. And watched them all again in the late nineties. Not only did they still hold up, but the true anarchy and cleverness of the humour was even more apparent - so much went over my head as a kid. (Peter stealing towels from the hotel in episode one with the thought bubble "everyone does it!" - you'd never get away with that today.... ha....). I also went to see them on their reunion tour in 1997 - the only reunion tour they did with all four original members. It was amazing.
