Pomade

I don't mean to sound facetious, but one time after not washing my hair for 3 days in the summer and keeping it thick with Brylcreem, it started to smell a bit off. But if you're washing your hair thoroughly, putting in Brylcreem and wearing a hat - and you're not sweating buckets - then perhaps your hat needs a good cleaning?

That's what I thought at first, but i have the same problem with a brand new hat. The problem is worst with murray's. The sweet georgia brown's scent masks the smell a bit. I've just bought a ton Of Dax, to see if The problem is The same. Can pomade 'go off'?

Good thing I'm sticking to Sweet Georgia Brown - I've never had any...er...olfactory problems with that stuff.

I actually just picked up a can of Nu Nile for the first time in years and I forgot how much I loved it. Nice combable texture and hold and my second favorite smell next to Sweet Georgia Brown.

I picked up a tin of Sportin' Waves. It seems to be alright, although it is more like a gel than a wax/pomade. It does give a great wave to the front of my hair, which I have never been able to create before.

Word on the mean streets of the internet is, Sweet Georgia Brown in the purple tin is being discontinued. So if you love this stuff, you may want to stock up! I know I've grown to dig it, so I plan on buying some later this weekend. Just thought I'd give you fine folks the heads up.

I've been using ""Layrite Deluxe" (and occasionally Brylcreem) for the past two weeks, I finally got tired of tearing out my own hair, forehead acne, and mucky-combs from "Murray's."

However, the shine seems to only last for 20 minutes... I guess you have to sacrifice shine for ease-of-washing.

I just got my hair cut last week, and my barber styled it with "Let's Jam." Even though it is not a 'vintage-themed' product, he stated it is water soluble, will keep you hair shiny, and won't flake up like Layrite.

Is there a pomade that has the hold of Dax Wave & Groom, but doesn't change the color of one's hair? I'm fine with the shine, but I have naturally blond hair, so if I use a lot of stuff, it looks dark brown. Overall though, Dax Wave & Groom is probably the best hair product I've used, it has in my opinion enough shine for what I want, and great hold. I tend yo use a "little dab" with this unless I want to hold a pompadour or slicked back (as in straight back, my hair combs easiest diagonally or to the side) look together, in which case one can lasts me a year and a half. Otherwise, with a side part and a sort of lower profile pomp, I like a lock of hair curled over my forehead near the right eyebrow.

Check for Dax's new pomade, Neat Waves or High & Tight (Awesome Hold - desert camo tin.) High & Tight is like a lighter Wave & Groom, and Neat Waves a lighter High & Tight.

Black & White has been my favorite for a little while now. Love the smell and hold! I should also mention that is mixes really well with Murray's Super Light for a great slicked-back look.

I just starting using Layrite and I absolutely love it. It never gives up, and I actually have to work to keep my hair *down*, not up. This picture was taken late on a Tuesday night as I was setting my hair for bed. I had put the stuff in Monday morning.

Black and Whites

I just bought a new pot of Black and Whites. The new design of the pot shows that this years is their 90th anniversary.

Now, when I first started using it, I thought it was incredible that I was using such an old-fashioned product. This was something from the dim and distant past. In those days I had to take a 50 mile train journey from my home to London, then go to Brixton market, to find it in a shop filled with hair products used by West Indians (no internet in those days).

However, I now discover that it has been going for 90 years, I have been using it for 30 years - i.e. 1/3rd of the product's existence. My mind no longer sees it as a product of the dim and distant past, but a product whose history is entwined with my own life.

I'm sure you can imagine how old that makes me feel!

Has anyone been using Mr. Ducktails pomade. I hear you can get it thru Hairgum USA. Ive heard its a medium weight but has nice shine.
