No the M38 all original matching, non refurb, no import marks AND Finn capture (SA) stamped that I bought for 300 beats that. But I'm more of a shooter then a collector, and an M38 wasn't on my short list of guns I wanted so when I was offered a substantial sum only a few days after buying it I went ahead and sold it.

And yes they do multiply. I started with two 91/30 refurbs that I bought last winter, then I bought and sold the M38 now I have this M28 Finn. It's not that I'm looking for more Mosin's. But well, when I go into a gun store I can recognize the mag well and bolt/action from about 40 ft away so I find myself always taking a hard look at them since they are the ones I can identify. Then when I find an oddity for a non oddity price I take it home with me.

I liked that M38. Kind of an odd bird being SA marked.

I have a '42 Izhvesk that's a Finn capture. Talk about rough, you could use the reciever for a nail file.

When I saw the CZ pistol that Effingham's father brought home from WWII it reminded me of a similar CZ pistol that my father brought home after "The Big One".
It's a CZ vz.24 caliber .380 acp. It's recoil operated with a rotary barrel locking system.

It would be interesting to know it's history.
If only it could talk.

DeaconKC; Thank you, My Dad picked it up "somewhere" in Germany after hostilities ceased. He never talked about it. I also have the holster and it's spare magazine. By the way the serial numbers match.

Time for another Afghan Update; below is a 3rd Pattern Kandahar Cavalry Carbine. .303. I recently got in 4 of these. And I'm keeping the nicest for my personal collection.

Also shown here are our new reproduction rear sight protectors. Copied from an original that was found with a cache of .303 carbines.

Indeed. A friend of the family collects. He showed me a revolver that had been "over there" that had 4 lines scored onto the grip. To tally what? nobody knows...

Well I must give the standard caveat when dealing with guns in excess of a hundred years old from a foreign nation assembled by semi-skilled labor under the direction of the Brits. That is that these are antiques for collecting purposes and if you must shoot it then have it checked out by a gunsmith.

That being said I know KilroyCD shot his 2nd Pattern and I plan to shoot mine. In fact I hope to compete in a Victorian Rifle Shoot in July with it. But if Victorian era Brit guns are your thing then I'd suggest heading over to www.martiniforum.org You'll find me over there with several more pictures of this rifle, and quite a few pictures of the 2nd Pattern that KilroyCD owns.

I've had my C&R for years. I definitely understand what you mean. Big difference between a hundred year old Smith and Wesson in clean shape or as you said "semi-skilled" labor!

This forum keeps costing me money! Ever since I bought my early G&H "Sporter" built on a 1903 action I have been ruined. Mine (posted pictures earlier) is a 7x57 and is almost too nice to take out on anything other than a blue bird day. After seeing the Sedgley I have been on the prowl and over the weekend I located one in Maryland. The gun is now on it's way to my FFL and I should have it Monday. I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

I'm off tomorrow, so I'm getting some sight work done on one of my Krags. I'm sweating on a new front sight on this years elk rifle.. It only shoots about 4 feet high at 150 yds! LOL! I'll try to get a pic tomorrow on the work results....

Yes, built on what appears to be a "high" serial number 1903 Action and chambered in 30-06. I have often said the only thing that could be better than my G&H would be a G&H chambered in 30-06. I have learned a lot about the 7x57 and the capabilities of the round but if I could have only one rifle it would be a 30-06 (sorry, Sarge). The prospect of having a great old semi-custom built "sporter", dressed in a nice stick of walnut, topped with a Lyman 48 chambered in 30-06 keeps me up at night.

Where are you hunting elk and what are you hunting them with?
