Felt ribbon?

The brim is 2 3/4. I don't know how to get pictures on the digest here, but if you go to my website (www.michaelmallory.com) there's a mugshot in the hat.

Hey, that is a good looking hat on you. Nice brim width and everything. Does the crown have much taper or is that the front dents making it look more tapered?
You are right about the snap brim term as well. For some reason I have to think that you know hats fairly well. ;)

Thanks! The hat actually photographs with more of a taper than it has in my mirror (or maybe my head is just fuller than I think). It is mostly the dents that does it.

Most fedoras are snap brims, but there are a few that don't snap. Probably the most common is the safari style, which has a fedora c-dent crown, but is made so that its virtually impossible to turn any part of the brim up.

Not a snap brim, but it is a Mallory! (No relation, alas.)

There's actually a 3 Stooge short where the boys are trying to look tough. Moe snaps down the brim of his fedora and looks like a gangster. Larry snaps down the brim of his fedora and looks like a hood. Shemp snaps down the brim of his straw boater to the predictable crunch and looks suitably stupid.

I have a Mallory hat ad myself. And sure, David, you can call me by my first M. (Actually, M2 is supposed to be "M-squared," but you can't do the little tiny floating 2 on a computer).

I wore mine a fair bit in the winter - it has thick luxurious felt - not so much now it is getting warmer.

On the whole, I'm not a huge fan of the felt ribbon look, but it works well on some hats.

@Dinerman: Thank you for posting those! Quite an impressive collection. I really like the London :)
@Lloyd: I'm glad to hear that. Thanks for posting your VS since I have chosen Art to be the man to work with me on a Special Project involving a self-ribbon.
@DJH: The self ribbon does seem like it can be hit-or-miss. Thanks again for sharing yours. I've noticed that self-ribbons don't show up much on the Hats of the Day thread and it's nice to see some and hear that they are used.
Tip to you all, gents! :yo:

Art does some nice felt ribbons but you are restricted to what gets trimmed off the brim when he makes your hat or someone else' using the same color felt. My forest green hat began life with a regular ribbon and got upgraded when I visited him and saw the cut off piece of forest green felt lying on the bench. I immediately grabbed it and then started begging :)
The smaller your head the more likely you are to that Art will have a piece of felt that he can use.
Good luck and make sure we get pics when you are done!
