That quote reminds me of me at Detling last year sitting on the wartime beach display! I wore a rather pale 1930s elasticated swim suit, and pale colours do not go with my pasty complexion either haha! The swimsuit is fabulous however! I'm pretty sure I'm worrying about being sunburnt in this picture!

Wow you look amazing! I have a very similar swimsuit in white, though I’ve never worn it as it makes me look like I’m in the altogether! I wouldn’t say it was the most practical of swimsuit choices either.

Why thank you! My shoes were actually from clarks last year (the originals range which does a few proper vintage inspired shoes every now and again), they remind me of the vintage kids sandals you see in pictures! I think they have redone them this year too which I'm pleased about!
Yes white doesn't seem the most practical colour for a swimsuit! I have a linen blue one in the elasticated style as well, which seem like a silly fabric to use as it get sooo heavy once wet! I suppose it must have just been used for posing in

These days, i will only pick up a particularly good pair in the thrift store because they are a little too underappreciated. But for a good 50s look, they are just the thing.

I highly doubt this would be considered vintage . . .

I've lurked on this forum for a while but have only posted 5 times or so. I can't really say my attire is vintage (unless the 1980s or even 1990s can also be considered vintage). At any rate, here's what I was wearing on Thursday (I took the picture that night after getting home, which is why my shirt is all wrinkly):

Outfit
Beige Polo button-down shirt
Levi's 505 jeans
Fossil belt
Navy argyle socks
LL Bean bluchers -- originals made in USA

Now for Friday's outfit (I took the pic this morning, so hopefully I looked less wrinkly):

I honestly couldn't say whether I like the Bean bluchers or the Sebago Campsides better!

Welcome Mercer. To paraphrase the immortal Kanye West, "You're looking pretty frat in your beige polo." I sport the RL/BB button-down and jeans look many a day, along with a pair of well-worn topsiders, which truth be told, are probably my favorite pair of shoes.

Took a girl to the theatre tonight for a second date. I know some of y'all from the suits section disavow the Trad aesthetic, but I think there is nothing more quintessentially American than a gray 3-2 sack, cordovans from alden, and a slim brooks brothers tie. Trad fundys might knock me points for the spread collar and french cuffs - but I've never been able to countenance wearing a button-down shirt with a suit.

I own one pair of solid loafers and I keep pennies in them religiously! I agree, loafers are quite underrepresented in a lot of vintage wardrobes.

I almost always wear Loafers (when not wearing cowboy boots, odd combo, right?) They're my favorite, most comfortable shoe I've found.

Well, assuming that you probably wear white socks with cowboy boots, just make sure to wear dark socks with loafers if you don't already. True, I know white socks with loafers was common in the 50s (at least among teens), but it doesn't automatically mean it was good or right.

I never wear white socks with loafers. Usually black, or argyle. Today, they're tan with a black houndstooth pattern.

What's the deal with the pennies? I've heard them called penny loafers, but never caught the etymology of that.
