I know a lot of you fine folks live out west and many in California. I hear that you have reached record high heat for ten days straight, and that blackouts are occuring. I just wanted to wish you all well, and hope that you have plenty of light and cool air in your homes. Drink lots of water, wear a hat!( which I know you all will), and try to stay inside.
My thoughts and best wishes for a break in this insane weather are with you all.
Take Care and try to stay cool,
Daisy

We are just fine here in Northern California. It is much cooler today. No power outages or anything like that. [huh] Perhaps the news makes it sound worse than it is. There are areas but it didn't affect the whole state. Thanks for the concern. I think New York is worse off than we are. Those people I feel sorry for. :(

Regards,

J

This is very weird wheather for July. At my house it shouldn't get above the high 80s, and it should cool off very quickly at night. I had all the windows open last night, but it never cooled off.

It's like we bypassed July and went straight to September.

Thanks Daisy.

Well here in Sacratomato it has NOT cooled off yet. Still over 104 here, which is better than it has been I guess. It is supposed to drop to 98 this weekend.

Well, I'm glad you're all checking in. I know the heat can be unbearable, but we on the east coat get wretched humidity. So, even though it's only in the mid-eighties, it can feel like 100 degrees. I'm glad you're hanging in there, wouldn't want my friends to be uncomfortable =-)

Unfortunately we were getting some nasty humidity as well. Thankfully it has cooled down quite a bit today. Hopefully it will continue. I went to Costco, Target, 2 home depots yesterday and the neighborhood hardware store looking for extra fans. They were all sold out!!

That's why your avatar looks that way, eh? :D
It is cooling down here for sure. It was windy this morning. I severly questioned whether the Aloha shirt might have been too light. I don't question now though. :p

I appreciate your concerns, Daisy. :)

I'm rather used to the heat. Prior to the heatwave, I was on vacation in Vegas, Death Valley, and the entire Southwest. I don't know, but 100 degree whether feels a heck of a lot cooler when compared to 120+ heat from the Mojave Desert. ;)

Well, it was 110 Saturday and Sunday. Saturday I went to my cousin's house for a birthday party for his son. He had one of those huge inflatable water slides that you have to climb up a ladder. It was meant for young kids, not 180-250 pound men.:D
On, Monday while the rest of the state boiled at 100 plus degrees I worked in Pacifica where it was still overcast and foggy at 12:30.

A cooling trend is taking place

Monday, it was 112, Tues it was 110, and today (Wed) it was 105 in my yard.
Tonight there is a cool fog breeze.
I think it is ending.

Yes, LizzieMaine, I would prefer a snow shovel.

Believe me, after one Nor'Easter (thats what the big storms in Northeast are called) you'll be wishing for heat. You get up in the morning and the streets are piled with snow. If you live in the city, you just see large mounds where cars are buried, and on top of the more snow from where the ploughs dump their loads. You go outside and your throat hurts, the wind knocks you over, your toes start to tingle almost immediately. There is no possible way to try and look good when you have to get somewhere on a snow covered day. It lasts for days too, then leaves behind a big slushy mess, that just gets even messier from cars splashing muck onto the sidewalks. Then, when the day's get back to normal, another storm spills another foot or more. It's fun, no work, no school, eat junk food all day cause you can't get to the store. But, it get's old really fast, and you start praying for spring and summer to come. It's a bad cycle though, becuase now the heat and humidity are bad (not nearly as bad as what you all have been going through) but bad enough for me to crank up the central air and deal with the bill later, bad enough that every time I step outside I feel sticky and want to immediately go home to take a shower. We start praying for fall. Fall is perfect. Beautiful foliage, crisp fresh apples for apple pie, picking out your turkey for thanksgiving, football games. Even though this season isn't the begining of the year, it feels that way for me. The weather is simply magical. Cool 65 and lower as the months turn into winter again. But it's a cool dry season, with lots of fun holiday's like halloween, Thanksgiving, even Colombus day (hey it's a three day weekend, so it's a holiday! My birthdays in the fall, so that's the only bad thing about it. But think, fresh rhubarb , apple pie, pear tarts, blueberry crumbles, lemon bars, and of course pumpkin pies, donughts, bars, everything pumpkin.:eek:fftopic: I got a little carried away with the NE seasons, sorry about that. I know I had a point here. That you should never wish to be in the middle of a windy, wet, snowy, icy New England storm. The first few minutes are great, Yeah no school, no work, we've got some food in the house, light the fire, if we still have electric so we can still surf the web. It's a day or more where you can't go outside, it can drive one crazy. Movies, boardgames, lots of naps, tea, hot coco. Believe me you'd get bored, and you look outside and all you see is sheets of white. Trees encapsuled by ice, it's a pretty site, but gets pretty boring quite fast.
I feel for you all with the terrible heat you are having, and I hope there is an end in site. But dont wish for snow, it will only make you so much more miserable. Fall is the season you'd love. Spring is nice too but it is too unpredictable. We haven't had a real spring here in ages. Usually we get a few weeks of rain with some nice warm days in between, then you wake up one morning and its 90 and humid. Summer just comes without notice, and it can be cruel, but not nearly as cruel as the dead of winter.
Sorry for the long explanation. Jus didn't want you to think that our snow storms or blizzards would bring you any relief to your heat. They's probably make you love the heat wave you are in.
I'm glad to hear you all are hanging in. Its a pretty big story on the national news. You and NYC, both in heat in the dark. Argh, I'v gone on, and didnt wan to do that. Just glad to hear that you all are haning in there and doing so well. Remember drink lots of water. Dehydration can be very bad and painful too.. You can do it, you're all strong people. So Sorry for the seasons diatribe!

I hate snow. I would rather die than deal with snow. PU! That is why I stay in California. I can deal with heat and rain. I can't deal with snow. :eusa_doh: I just don't understand how people can live in areas where it snows and gets below freezing for months on end. No thanks. :p
