No need... just wondering about this line:

Forum: Hats
Everything from fedoras to five panel caps. If a guy doesn't have a lid, he is not worth talking about.

Perhaps it refers to baseball caps.

In the 19th century did real cowboys, or western horsemen, sometimes use neck bands (straps, whatever)? If so, how did they cinch them? I mean, did they tie two straps in a knot? Or did they just have one strap? Thanks for the answer to whoever knows. Ralph

The Lords Hat

Gentlemen,
Please excuse my ignorance, but is a Lords hat merely a Homburg with a pinch, or is there more to it than that?
Also, is it Lords hat, Lord's hat, or Lords' hat?
Hope everyone is enjoying Cinco de Mayo responsibly.

As I understand it, it's the lack of binding which distinguishes the Lord's Hat. Perhaps Bowlerman can chime in.

Exactly ... ;)

Either that or it's a typo, and should read, Everything from rubber fedoras to five panel caps.

Still new here. What are those single "buttons" I see around the crowns of some of the older style Stetson's? It looks like a dressy satin button around a very thin elastic band.

That would be the wind cord/wind trolley. It can unloop from the hat and be secured to a lapel so that one's hat does not fly away.

So, I've always heard of Oddjob's hat (the Bond villain) described as a Bowler, but then I went back and looked, and isn't that more of a top hat?

Is there a specific name for this style of hat?

I even checked all the yarmulkas I could find. All were either four or six panel.
So who really does have a five panel?
