Tarsal straps - I've never heard of them before. They are truly flash. I think they would be a step too far for me. Even my correspondent brogues don't get many outings.

they're derived from am early sports shoe (you see it on vintage cricket boots) and the strap would have been purely functional; to strengthen the area of the shoe that bends as you walk (the bit that is often the first to split). here's the earliest example i have from 1876:

Politicians: these days they never seem to be stylish. Not like that style icon Anthony Eden (who even made it onto the front cover of 'Tailor & Cutter'):

This was what Esquire said about him in 1936: Esquire, May 1936:
"Anthony Eden has exerted an enormous influence on continental fashions this year, as witness this turnout featuring such characteristic Eden touches as the black Homburg worn with a white linen waistcoat and white gloves. To American eyes the effect is somewhat dandified, but the Continent is always fertile ground for the dandy manner. The suit is of flannel with a faint blue overplaid. The shirt is of fine batiste with a white laundered collar, the specialty of a famous Paris shirt maker. The large knot foulard bow is a typical French shape which has gained London acceptance. The sack wrist gloves are light-weight white pigskin. Americanisation of this outfit may involve dispensing with the white gloves and the rattan stick and substituting a soft felt or straw hat for the Homburg. But the combination above is not too extreme for Metropolitan acceptance."

Fashion magazines of the period openly admitted that his style was an influence, and included 'Eden' inspired artwork:

Ok, these are most probably sportcoats rather than suit jackets but I don't know where else to post them. I absolutely love the look of the fabric on those jackets. Come to daddy!

i've found these images rather randomly during various google searches, but does anyone know what they were specifically used for or in which publication they appeared ?
they all have a very distinct photographic look, so i'm guessing they were ads for fabric or a Savile Row tailor.

I vaugely recall seeing them before but I can't remeber the publication. Today, Paul Stuart shoot their ads in a similar fashion. I realy like the style and actually shot nearly my entire wardrobe in the same manner. When I posted some shots here on the FLounge I was told by some senior members that the style was not appreciated and that they prefered that I post shots with me wearing my wardrobe.

I never posted another photo of my stuff again........[huh]
