Hi folks,

Can someone please ID these eyeglasses that Brad Pitt wore in The Tree of Life. I keep searching but no luck. Thanks.

They're a vintage frame called the Darren from a company named Graceline. Allyn Scura has some in stock as sunglasses:

I want to get Styl-Rite 820 frames. What places should I search? Since I don't think SRO still makes those?

Google doesn't lead me to any website except the top two which do not have the size I want.

I think Demi refers to being partially translucent? Not the fade-to-clear type, but like a tortoise type of effect. I've seen frames called Demi amber and Demi gray, and they seemed to be a patterned, swirly, borderline tortoise look.

Please refer to the answer to an identical question you asked earlier in the year, which was answered in March.
Please also read through this thread for other answers to similar questions you've asked since 2008. Your question has been answered a number of times, and in different ways, in various portions of this thread.

If you're looking to buy vintage frames of that style, you could also try checking eBay. You may not know the exact manufacturer and model, but most sellers probably won't, either, so you'll have to resort to looking at them and making an assessment yourself.

I think Microshapes' crystal Arnel is closer to those LBJ frames.

I would think you'd be able to find a vintage pair of fades on eBay, or at www.vintageeyeglassesonline.com - they don't tend to be super expensive, and they're also likely better made than any modern comparable frame you're likely to find.

i was digging through some old sunglasses that i don't wear anymore (because they're too 50s looking for me) and discovered that one pair is the collectable Tart Arnel:

the Tart shield stamp is very worn away but just visible.

Havershaw sold a pair of deadstock amber Tarts for about $700 not long ago. these ones in 'blackwood' and clear aren't nearly as valuable.
everyone wants the amber / tortoiseshell cos that's what Johnny Depp wears.

Those are really cool! One of the few colors of Arnel I don't own.

The amber ones have gotten even more out of control, in terms of price. I saw one end for $1200 a few months ago, and then about a week later, I saw one get bid up to $2200 in the last two minutes of the auction. (yes, I actually saw it happen!) craziness. In some ways, it makes me want to sell mine, but if the price stays in that neighborhood, I'd never be able to afford another, so I'll probably hang onto mine forever. I feel lucky to even have one.

You looking to sell yours?

GoldenEraFan, there are quite a few authentic pair of what you're looking for on eBay right now. They're typically not that expensive.

Oh yeah, they are pretty big.

Typically, those go for $100 - $150. The guy who seems to sell those a lot offered me a buy it now of $150 for those in my size. I almost bought them, but decided on spending $250 on a pair of greysmokes from him instead.

What kind of eyeglasses would these be? Worn in the 60s-70s by US President Richard Nixon.

Where could I get a modern pair like them?
Or these?

Wow! I wore a pair just like those are my first pair ever back in '66-'69 - decidedly "un-hippy" I'm afraid. I didn't get my first pair of wire-rims until High School, probably 1970 and they were more like what NBC newsman Frank McGee wore - quasy aviator types. -dixon cannon
