You can always get a Sahara next, Brent. I have a hat from Art in that colour, I like it a gazillion times more than I thought I would.

Now that it is so warm, I'm missing wearing my Tumwaters!

Hi

I had TonyB build this one. My very first delivery in my new state. 5.75 inch crown with a slightly more than 3 inch brim. The liner is also tan, and the sweat has MJS 1961 just like the Seattle hat.

It got rained on the first day I owned it. This is a completely different feel from the other Rough Rider hat I own being made of Dress weight felt. It's a LOT lighter on my head. I wore it to the 102 year old Cattleman's Cafe in the Oklahoma City Stockyards tonight. Thanks Tony.

Mike, cool Hat, really unusual shape but looks very good on you!

Hi

It's a pretty exact copy of the hats that the Rough Riders wore up Kettle hill during the Spanish American War. It has the advantage of also being almost the perfect safari / outdoors hat. My other similar hat is Western weight, and for summer, the dress fedora weight works better.

The following thread has roughly 100 pictures of the hat I'm copying.

Well it's almost time for a new hat. Looks like TonyB is down to the short rows, working on my second Tumwater hat. It's the one with "Camel" felt that I mentioned here a couple months back. Now it's be-ribboned and ready for its final few touchups. Then the hardest part...waiting the few days it takes for the hat to make its way across country!

I ended up choosing a new hat that's very much like the old hat. Except prettier. ;-) Same proportions, same crown shape, similar bow and binding. Just light "Camel" brown instead of dark "Chocolate" and a darker ribbon plus a very tastefully contrasting edge binding that I really, really like a lot.

Pictures once it's in hand...or should I say "on head"...

Handsome Tumwater Brent. Congrats. Nice art shot from the artist. You'll really like the Camel, I have a VS in that color and it's very friendly with lots of clothes.

Yeah, the last couple weeks any time I notice my reflection in a mirror or window I think "Hey, that Camel hat would look good with this shirt".

I have a couple of things that look really, really great with my dark chocolate brown Tumwater. But I think a lot of other clothes that look pretty good with the dark brown are going to really "pop" with this one.

My late father always seemed to have a lot of clothing and outwear in the general range of that Camel color, give or take. I'm already starting to remind myself of him, I guess this might speed up the process. Kind of spooky how once I turned 50 I started wearing clothes that I once would have thought "That looks like something my daddy might wear"!

That will be a great hat for you, Brent.

I don't recall seeing many examples of the camel felt so looking forward to seeing your photos.

Nice styling from Tony as well.

David,

I know we should "never say 'never'" but the proportions, crown shape and the snap of the brim on my first Tumwater hat looked so perfect when it came out of the box, I can't imagine ever wanting a different shape or style hat. Maybe in five years I'll feel different but this particular design suits me right down to the ground.

I remember an example photo he sent me early on in the first-hat process with a 2-1/8" brim and built on this same block. I saw that hat and it clicked exactly into the place in my brain that held the concept of "Hat". That's the one, that's my hat right there.

Too dark and wet outside to get a natural light photo so here's a temporary snapshot of My Two Tumwaters.

Any lingering doubts I had about the color being right for me were gone as soon as I pulled it out of the box. It's such a beautiful hat I think it would right for anybody!

OK, here it is on top of some funny-looking guy's head in natural light.

I don't quite have the brim tweaked perfectly yet but it's shape up over the next few days.
