Several things struck me:

1. The guy works for you for years, you don't know if he's even married or got kids?

2. This same guy is the only one of your whole crew that stands by your side when the lead starts flyin' and you don't anything about him? He's bound himself to you not money and you never took the time to learn his name?

3. Richard's a great character, I amazed my family as I began calling off every weapon he put on the bed. He's going to war and the madam of the house is in trouble. "She doesn't appear blind in the picture..." boiling oil's too good for her.

4. I want to know who snitched on the Massaria hit. It obviously wasn't "Joe Irish", nor was it Ely or Nucky, that leaves the Fed (who's body we've not seen) or laughing boy. I say it's laughing boy. He gets a bag fulla money from Nucky, drops dime on him, sits back and waits for him to get killed or deposed then he's scott free with a big pile of dosh from a dead man.

5. My men could dress back then, particularly when performing various acts of mayhem.

6. Between Boardwalk and Walking dead I was wrung out like a dish rag, had a hard time sleeping I tell you.

It was an eye-opener to see how little muscle Nucky actually has. It took all of three men to overrun Nucky's headquarters and the rest of Gyp's boys took over the town with seemingly little effort.
Althugh Eli rode in at the end with the cavalry I wondered where these men were to begin with?

The reality is this imbalance of manpower is no more than a device used to forward the story but the illogic of the situation stuck out to me.

One thing I did like was how Nucky used his pistol to take out the fella with the shotgun then used the shotgun to take out the other two. My hat is off to who ever added that sequence.

Worf, that's the statement being made. Nobody knows nothin' 'bout the help tills ya needs them.
As for your peeps dressin' the dress, wait 'til they start up the club! I reckon we'll have drool buckets with great clothes and music, etc.
as they say "Be nice on the way up, 'cause you'll see the same people on the way down". Or somethin' like that. Nucky needs 'em now!
And I agree - laughing man is a sellout. But I do love his character. Cracks me up. Richard, otoh, is a good guy with loads of anger building up and an arsenal. Good combo for a season finale!!!

Micky Doyle seems the obvious pick but I have a feeling it's that Fed. The last we saw of him he was at the bathhouse w/Owen. It wouldn't be a shock to know Massaria (or by extention Gyp) has a fed on the payroll. Nucky had his government man before Van Alden "baptised" him..

I suspect you're right.

The character on which the Doyle character is very loosely based was a guy who called himself Mickey Duffy (like our Mickey Doyle, he was of Polish descent and had a Polish surname). Duffy came to a violent end in 1931. So I suspect the writers may well bump off the Doyle character, and if that event fails to coincide chronologically with the demise of the real-life personage on which the character is based, well, this is fiction, so all's fair.

It's Ragged Dick by Horatio Alger a story about a street kid becoming a success..

The book was inscribed, “To my brave Enoch on the occasion of his 12th birthday from his doting mother.” I thought Gyp might have actually been a bit touched by that, but perhaps the fact that he didn't annihilate anyone after reading it might have given that impression. That book was special to Nucky - in the 1st season, he told Jimmy that Jimmy reminded him of Dick, the shoeshine boy in the story.

Please, can you identify Richard's weapons?
