Knock your SOCKS off - Advice on great SOCKS

I wear "merino wool" socks all year long. Some think I'm nuts - but try it. They do wick away moisture very well. I have a lot of the "Darn Tough" socks and wear almost nothing but for casual and hiking/jogging. They last forever and I believe have a lifetime guarantee.

Those look mighty fine socks, though £25 for a pair does seem a little steep - I am merciless on footwear, shoes and socks, and have to buy at least two seven-packs of socks a year, while I've replaced the heels and soles on the former countless times. Funny, though, isn't it: £650 for a v tough leather jacket "Sounds reasonable." But £25 for a v tough pair of socks "Hell, no!" I will peruse eBay and see what I can find...

SOCKS

Trust me, worth it! I've been wearing 5 pairs non-stop for almost a year exactly and they're like new. I get them in sale through a place online. I'll look for the link. Totally worth it, and they have lots of colors to keep from getting boring. Here they is: http://www.socksaddict.com/

Butte's comments regarding merino wool socks is true: wicks out perspiration and is cool in summer but warm in winter. I am partial to SmartWool brand also sold on Butte's recommended website.

Even in the 100°+ temps, I'm wearing them. Sounds nuts, but try it. Just get good ones. If you play it right, you can get a sale and coupon codes to drop the prices a good bit.
Cotton socks seem like the right thing to do, but they stink, wear fast, and get stiff. These wool socks are even made in runners versions. I do just about everything in them now.

It's been a while, and most of my Smartwool are worn out, but they are great. I might have to get a few again. Maybe those "Darn Tough" ones.

I don't care for cotton socks either. Wool, of various weights and weaves (depending on season), for dress/casual and synthetics (Thorlos) for sports

I wear the Thorlos occasionally with cowboy boots but mostly wear one of my SmartWool brand of merino wool socks. The SmartWool brand comes in a number of styles with varying degrees of thickness and length. When worn on a regular basis, the socks tend to become thinner but seem to hardly ever wear out. Whenever I wear cotton socks with cowboy boots, there is a tendency to concentrate sweat, and it almost takes a vise to take off my hand-made-to-measure, tight-fitting boots at the end of the day. I have one pair of hornback alligator boots that are not so tight fitting that mate well with somewhat thicker merino wool socks and can wear this combo even during a hot summer day in Texas.

Costco has a great deal on Merino socks. I believe they are 70% wool or so. They are called Kirkland outdoor trails socks. 4 packs were approx $12. Wear them everyday.
I do have some Icebreaker socks also but they were way more expensive.

I bought some of the expensive Smartwool socks. They jsut don't compare to the Darn Tough, IMHO. They pill a lot after one wear. OTOH, my Darn Tough after over one year, look like new. I wear them 98% of the time. They truly are my favorite socks - all year long. Highly recommend them.

I'm with ButteMT61 merino or smart wool year round. Dry out quickly and are really not that hot. I drive the brown truck for a living and I know about sweaty feet. If it is not wool I will not wear it. I have been a sierra trading post fan for years, maybe their number 1 customer, Yes I spend too much money there, but they carry quality products and reasonable prices, so if you are looking for good socks give them a try.
