Horween USA and Aero Leather Joint Statement

I've been reading Gary Eastman's excellent new A2 book, and it would seem that a fair proportion of original A2s were, in fact, steer, rather than horse.

This includes the Aero 42-15142P. So, I guess, if you are looking for the most accurate A2 replica, you may well be hoping Aero used steer on your jacket.....:D;)

Maybe so...but I thought we were discussing Aero's FQHH(or steer)used on their civi utility jackets...and different hides sent to customers than ordered. [huh]

i send him ma jacket back to check it out about the leather problem with aero....horse or steer...here are the answers from him

some news about the question which leather is the collab from AERO/IH

here is a statement via mail from Giles to me about ma aero ironheart collab after checking out the leather!

"I have spoken to Will. He and Johnny (the expert cutter) are convinced your jacket is HorseHide.

If you send it in to Aero, I am sure they will say it is not Horse Hide, because then that ****s Will and Alexander Leathers.

It is actually the case that it is so difficult to tell apart that some tanneries sell Steer as Horse because even the jacket makers can't tell the difference.

What would you like to do.

Giles"

"No idea. It is pointless me even looking, even experts can't tell the difference.
Giles"

^^ Giles statement to me via mail some mails before about my question about the leather...Horse or Steer

Giles sold Aero/IH collaboration Horsehide Jackets and can´t say some Weeks later not 100% sure if it Horse or Steer!

i think everybody can think what he want now!

Alex, can you send an email to holly@aeroleatherclothing.com and we can arrange to have your jacket looked at by Horween, at our expense. If you could send me your phone number we'll call you to make arrangements.

Hello everybody!

The fact that also my black "front quarter horsehide" 1950’s Flight Jacket turned out to be steerhide (despite its lighter weight) and the great and solicitous way Holly and Ken deal with this problem shows that Aero’s customer focus is now again as perfect as it was before some staff members (who meanwhile got the push) started their "game".

I’d like to use this as an opportunity to thank Holly, Ken an all of the Aero staff for their kindness and patience and wish a Merry Chrismas and a Happy New Year to Aero and all forum members.

Thanks and kind regards,

Johannes

My home town Salzburg (Austria) in winter

You're welcome Johannes, and that certainly is a staggeringly beautiful place to be!

Can steer get soaking wet just like FQHH?

According to Aero, the steerhide is just as water-resistant as the horse due to the chrome tanning process used. I think there are a few folks that have ridden with them in the rain and believe the horse may be less prone to soak through, but its pretty heavily debated. Either way, getting either hide wet isnt going to matter as long as its dried properly and I think thats really more for the lining and stitching than the leather TBH.

Perhaps, HD, I was trying to lighten the mood of what is becoming a very heavy discussion.

As Donny Brasco said: "Forget about it":D;)

How do you dry it properly?

Both pics of Salzburg (winter and summer) feature a castle built for psychopathic prince-archbishops at the expense of normal human beings who know how to love, how to feel empathy, and why they should feel guilty when they do something wrong, even if they don't get caught. These cold, deceptive, and evil elite rulers in their hilltop fortress lorded it over the good and decent people of Salzburg for millenia: dominating them, exploiting them, and sacrificing their lives willy-nilly for this or that "war," which, more often than not, was unnecessary and the consequence of deceptive psychopathic leaders vying for control over each other. It's amazing that good and descent people in Salzburg still often do not recognize the evil that beautiful castle symbolizes. The breath-taking architecture is a testament to mind control and the way that psychopathy can warp something like Christianity into the exact opposite of how it started (turning the other cheek, loving one's enemies, and treating others as one would wish to be treated). The good and decent people of Salzburg deserve to be able to recognize evil when they see it, especially when it is as lovely and beautiful as the architecture of Hohensalzburg Castle, right in their midst every day.

Any kind of wet leather I would put in a warm room, not sweaty hot and certainly not near a radiator or tumble dryer as it may shrink. It may take a while but just allow it to dry naturally.

Given the amount of oils and fats forced into the leather, I'd imagine you'd need to be caught in a helluva downpour for rain to soak in.

(staying OT for a moment): I've soaked through my FQHH HWM more than once (once walked 2 miles in serious downpour, as you said), so it happens. Just laid it on the floor, still damp right through next day, just wore it, eventually dried out. No adverse effects I can see/tell.

Magnificent again. Did you take these? I'm just curious, as they look like professional post card shots.

Yes, you are right! Those two pics are picture postcards, not taken by me, but give a good impression of Salzburg (despite its history).

I know, I go off topic now, but if you are interested in my personal view of Salzburg, have a look here (just a small overview):
