Fun with Aliens 101 - "Paul" - A little obvious and it started kinda slow but if you catch all the inside jokes it's pretty rolicking by the end. I enjoyed it.

Zero Dark 30. Long, long film. As is Django Unchained and Lincoln. In this time of ever-shortening attention spans, are filmmakers just attempting to torture us with these marathon earnest-a-thons?

"The Skin I Live In", Spanish film with Antonio Banderas available from Netflix. Interesting. For any of you who remembers Les Eaux Sans Visage (Eyes Without a Face), this is a good one in the same vein.

On Saturday, the Missus, Younger Teen Hood, and I saw Wreck-it Ralph. Laugh out loud funny in spots. Quite a few references to other films, along with a heart-felt homage to Pac-Man era arcade games. Fix-it Felix is a blend of Eb Dawson and Mr. Rogers. King Candy is outright Ed Wynn, both vocally and visually.

Saw that one last year at The Spectrum (www.spectrum8.com) and WOW Almadovar is one weird cat. Not as crazed as David Lynch. Lynch's work has such a dream like quality that you really have to suspend belief to go along for the ride. Almadovar's style is so "flat" so visceral (at least me) that I find his work more believeable and more disturbing. Good flick.

Anna Karenina. My wife and the couple we saw it with loved it; I thought it was a mess. The director's constant "see how clever I am" touches wrecked it for me.

As one reviewer observed, this movie may be longer than the book.
