I've been looking at that same pattern for the mens safari jacket. Unfortunately, I don't own a sewing maching and probably wouldn't be able to make one of these jackets if I tried. Just a thought MissQueenie, but in regards to fabric have you considered Ventile Cotton? This used to be the fabric of choice for outdoor garments - weather resistant, durable, soft hand, etc. A few companies today still make garments from Ventile so you should be able to locate a fabric source.

I'll get some of me in it as soon as it hits Castle Devereux, at which point I'll probably waffle on a bit about the theory behind the design.
