My family and I will miss Huell! He was such a big part of our lives since we are a history loving family. Actually, my grandpa and son can't seem to stop talking about him. Grandpa says if felt like you knew him even if you never met him. He even is talking about his shows that made an impact on him. He made the ordinary extraordinary! May he know how important he
was to all of us and may he be at peace!

I'll miss Huell. Since he became a Palm Springs area homeowner years ago, he was often over at my grandfather's house brushing up on local history and getting ideas for future shows. He even managed to squeeze Grandpa into several episodes involving the Palm Springs area. He was a gentleman, and could take a joke. Also sorry to hear about Harry Carey Jr., he's about the last of the John Ford regulars, especially from the cavalry movies. Frank

You didn't have to be a Cardinal fan to admire him. You only had to be an American.

I think the Mu-zee-al pronunciation was popularized by Harry Caray, who always said it that way during his Cardinal broadcasts. "Erskine takes the sign! The pitch! Mu-zee-al swings! A long drive! It might be! It could be! It is!"

I always loved the description of Musial's batting stance -- "he looks like a kid playing hookey peeking around a corner to see if the truant officer is chasing him."

Hans Massaquoi, a black man in Nazi Germany passed away on his 87th Birthday.
A fascinating and unique story of a Negro growing up in Hitler's Germany.

I look forward to reading that. When Count Basie toured Europe in the 30s he and his band weren't allowed out of the train at the station in Germany because of their colour.

1940s tennis star Gussie Moran has died at the age of 89.

"Gorgeous Gussie" was more known for her flashy underpants than she was for the quality of her game, but she played well enough to become a B-level celebrity thru the fifties, and was one of the better-known female athetes of her time. After her tennis career she went into broadcasting, where her best-known role was as co-host of the Brooklyn Dodgers' post-game radio show.

Patty Andrews, the last surviving Andrews Sister has died at 94 -- not just the last survivor of the Andrews Sisters themselves, but the last survivor of the many big-name sister acts which populated the popular-music scene from the late twenties to the mid-forties. No more Broxes, no more Boswells, no more Pickenses, no more Murphys. It's fitting that an Andrews, from the most successful sister act of them all, is the last to pass.
