Yes.... no cad design... no computers no high math... Leo just designed it "perfectly". Nothing in this world like a good Fender Jazz bass. The Alembic's long gone... replaced by one of 3 Dosley's ever made.

Wow! Nice collection, Worf. I have three player basses: a Fender Jazz fretless, a Fender Stu Hamm short scale, and a G&L Lynx (also A Leo-designed bass), and four others in pieces - bodies, necks, pickups. I got carried away buying parts, and now I've got to find the time to put the project basses together and sell one or two of 'em. I'm not even gonna talk about my eleven leather jackets (with another on order from Lost Worlds). Too many jackets and basses in my case, I fear.

Sold a few of my basses too a couple of years ago (a beautiful Ibanez MC924 in polar white), but drew the line at the Van Zallinge Z Bass and Hofner Violin.
Too much of a wrench... :-S
That's my favourite colour combo with the J-bass though. Looks grand...

I have a red 5-string Fender Jazz, a sunburst Fender Precision, a blonde Ibanez Soundgear, a black Vox, a Hofner Violin Bass, and a few others not worth mentioning. My favorite bass for feel, tone, and versatility the last couple of years is a sunburst Rogue (Gibson) Hofner look-alike violin bass. It's the first bass I've ever played with a pick (about 50% of the time). I bought the Rogue on ebay for $125.

I only have 2 basses, 1 acoustic/electric & 1 electric, both Dean's....I'm still trying to handle 4 strings which is 1 more string than I have A-2's....

I never got into "Stinger's" G&L's and other later brands Leo got involved with. But I know some heavyweight cats that swear by em. The only "project bass" of the bunch is the Fender Jazz to the right of the line. On bass player's and leather. Bass players are by nature... cool. We don't need the flash and preen like guitar players... and we can use a napkin and dictionary so we're not drummers. We're an odd combo of Rhythm AND Melody. And as such... know our way in and around the pocket. Bass players are by their very nature... low and slow.. cool... man cool... Cool like a good swiss watch or a fine leather jacket from anywhere. A perfectly formed "Porkpie" hat....

While I love leather jackets, I'm not a musician by any means. However, with all the bass talk, it reminded me of a fairly recent story. I was in class last year and some of my college students were talking about bass players and one of them mentioned Victor Wooten. That aroused my curiosity as I graduated HS with a bass playing Victor Wooten. Denbigh High School Class of '82 (Newport News, VA). Turns out Victor is "not too shabby" of a bass player! I'm not really a jazz guy (more AC/DC for me), so I didn't realize what a virtuoso he turned out to be. I went to YouTube and watched/listened to some of his music...holy crap! I'm not musical enough to even understand half of what he did, but it was impressive. Wonder if he has a nice leather jacket?

It's a small world and that's no wonder. If you look at some of Mr. Wooten's side men over the years you'll find a Sax player named "Roger Byham". Roger and I played music together from 6th grade to High School Graduation. An old and dear friend. It IS a small world.

Just an overall observation. The outerwear section has, to me, lost a lot lately, many posters have left, lots of extreme opinions everywhere. Now this post in itself is a perfect example of the evolution of an internet forum, sadly so, and it reflects on both me and the posts that I read. Oh well, it is also a cycle... I still appreciate a lot of the stuff sold in the classifieds, though, however the other outerwear rivalry stops me from buying from either of the "participants" as of now.

Well, mine is tenuous. I've bought my son a Fender Highway One J-bass, Tele starburst Highway One, and a couple lesser Fenders. They're in my house, but I can't play 'em. EADG - that's all I know lol

Guitars, as well as jackets, cars, and planes are very appealing because they are made for a purpose but somehow in fulfilling that purpose come out looking beautiful.
Take the Spitfire's elliptical wing for example. The Supermarine company found that the elliptical wing reduces drag, more so than a regular wing. Somehow the best looking thing ends up being the most functional.
We could all be playing guitars looking like square blocks of wood, but over time we've found that the more flattering cutaways sound better!
Not sure if this makes sense, but I know I'm amazed when items that shouldn't be beautiful end up looking so good.

Makes perfect sense - well put. I've got others too that fit that bill - watches, coins, etc. Fine line between collecting and getting pinged to star on "Hoarders: Buried Alive" lol
