Hey everyone. Figured I'd contribute as well.
As the ONLY Junior (Or student, for that matter) in my high school to wear suits, I started looking for like-minded people who had an interest in the finer points of clothing. As an American 16-year-old, it's a bit strange for me to actually enjoy dressing up. But hey, here I am.
A few of my personal preferences in suits:
Pinstripes should be three button or have a waistcoat (DB's are fine as well)
No shawl collars
Wing-tip collars, though formal, are not my style
Looking nice and being formal are two completely different things
And... that's about it ^^

I'll jump in here as well. I've been a lurker for a while, and have really enjoyed learning from you folks. I've always been interested in the era, even as a young man my family said I was born after my time. I don't really dress vintage much yet. It's more about grooming, behavior, and the mindset for me. I try to always be a gentleman. I enjoy the reaction I get from people when I hold doors for them, let others go ahead in line and things like that. Some seem to be shocked by it.

I do have to admit a little addiction to cast iron, old time radio, and shaving with razors older than I am. The Lady of the House is slowly being sucked in as well. We enjoy going to local estate auctions and buying cast iron, and things like enamelware and glass kitchen items from the period. I guess you could say we are building a vintage lifestyle a piece at a time. Anyway, I'll be around to spout off from time to time.

Hello Ladies and Gents,

My name is Alice, and I've been on a 40's kick since seeing the BBC show Wartime Farm. I was born in the 60's and grew up mostly in the 70's. My grandmother (who was born in 1910) lived with us, so I heard about life in the early part of the 20th century from someone who lived it. As a result I have an interest in the past but I do not romanticize it, since my grandmother had a fair amount to say about life before antibiotics among other things.

Learning more about the 1940's and the history of World War II has been very rewarding so far. Aside from learning the history for its own sake, it has helped me to understand the Cold War era that I grew up in.

I'm interested in making more of my own clothes, and love the forties styles. My sewing skills are pretty basic, so right now I'm working on a cotton dress from a modern pattern before tackling any vintage patterns.

I really appreciate the knowledge that is shared on these boards. Pleased to make your acquaintance.

Bonjour tout le monde !

My name is Cédric and I come from Strasbourg (France), where I'm going to be teacher of History and geography.
Initially, I am a WWII collector and reenactor of the US Army (more especially the units which freed my region), Free French Forces and Red Army. More recently, I discovered a new interest about 1930's and 1940's civilian fashion (both European and American). In concrete terms, it can include reenactment themes like the French Resistance or the US Army Criminal Investigation Detachment (a kind of WWII version of NCIS). Finally, I would say I simply love the clothing style from that time.
I found the Fedora Lounge by chance as I was doing some researches on the internet about the 1940's fashion. I am willing to learn more about the "Golden Era" but also to share my modest knowledge.

I guess I'll post here, too. I've looked around here for a while since my mom told me about this place. I always loved the 30s to 50s, but never had much way to really get into them, since I dont have much money. But then I started sewing and I'm really interested in clothing from the era. Then I played some games that take place in the time frame and well, here I am.

I got a few books that have 30s to 50s clothing in them, including Sears catalogs, but my scanner borked out. I'll have to find another way to scan them.

I posted in the Hat subforum, but I'll add here as well. I came primarily to add information to my burgeoning affliction for hats. I've recently discovered the three piece suit, and it's given me more confidence in what I wear. I work from home primarily, but it's inspired me to wear them into my occasional work excursions. I'm not really into the older look outside of the hats, but that might change.

I'm Miss Retro Chic, 43, live in Antwerp/Belgium with my 18-year old daughter and two dogs. I adore vintage, mostly from the 1930s to 1950s although I wear from other era's too.

I've been here for a few months, but I havent formally introduced myself. I'm Jessie, I'm 18, and I love vintage and retro everything. I tend to like 60s-70s, or 40s. I like jokes, I LOVE hats, and old jewelry. I live in Memphis, which on the plus side, has its fair share of snappy, well dressed folks. On the down side, we also have a lot of hipsters who wear vintage because its ironic, and gangster thugs who sag. It's nice to be a vintage bridge between the two. I'm a curvaceous gal, so it is also a thrill to show folks that big girls can be classy too.

I'm new to vintage, I'm used to the world of nerdom (fantasy, sci-fi, comics, cartoons, & on occasion anime.) So- I'm not exactly sure what I'm getting myself into! Haha. I'm 24 so I sort of feel like a baby on this forum, but from what I've seen so far everyone here is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about vintage- so I'm excited to get to meet all of you

Hi, I'm Kat. Have been interested in vintage things for quite a while now. Unfortunately my vintage wardrobe is a little lacking nowadays due to health problems (weight gain + not able to work + difficulty moving = not so good for vintage clothes) but I'll still spend time listen to music from the golden age and watching as many old movies as I can get my hands on.

I did use to be a FL member, but drifted away due to some massive life changes - redundancies (3), marriage, disability, childbirth, and now the end of my marriage. Before my health problems started I was just starting to learn to lindy hop, and am now hoping that my doctor can offer me pain management and I can maybe start it again. I was also getting into sewing and had made a few dresses from vintage patterns, but again that's had to be curtailed.

I'm hoping to one day return to all of that. Also, as I'm now splitting from my husband I need to get out there and meet people. Preferably people who share my interests.

In terms of other interests, I'm still a goth girl at heart though I don't necessarily dress the part so much nowadays. I also adore Burlesque (which I know is controversial on here) and pin up art. I do some graphic design and web design when I'm able, and am slowly working on designing some kids fabric for my son (now 1 year old).

Hi all, I've been lurking on and off for a while and finally made an account. I'm Sarah, and I've had a steadily growing interest in all things vintage for years, particularly 20s-40s. I don't own very much true vintage, so my wardrobe tends to be more vintage-inspired, but that's something I'm hoping to change! I'm also keen to develop my hairstyling skills, which are currently sadly lacking (I have long straight hair that will only really hold a curl from a wet set, and I'm somewhat lazy and inexperienced in doing complicated things to it).

Think I'll prod my husband to join too, this seems like his sort of place

Good afternoon,
My name Rich, aka Papabear, I am 53 years of age. I always been a fan of the 1940s since I was a child watching Abbot and Costello movies. The fashion, style, pride, workmanship, and conduct of that society is sorely missed in our throw away society of today. Even in the task of shaving, our society today is on how many and how fast. I have enjoyed the relaxing side of shaving using vintage gear from the early 1920s through the 1950s. Although I do not dress in period stylle, because I am a large man and finding clothing in my size is difficult, I do great pleasure is always looking presentable. Even in casual wear, I choose nice jeans and a button down shirt.

Hello,
Though it was time I should introduce myself seeing I've been here a few months, yet haven't really posted much. I've always been taken with old things since I was a child because they had been around longer than me and had lived a previous life and I always used to think about where the item may have been at one time, who owned and sometimes how they might have acquired it, I still do that sometimes. I started getting interested in vintage fashion recently due to my annoyance with the looks and quality of current fashion. The whole 1980s revival does nothing for me, yes I was born in the late 1980s but I have no pleasant memory of clothes from then, I was too young and at the time it was all about toys for me. Of course as fate would have it I had to wear my older cousin's hand-me-downs to the end of elementary school and they were mostly from the 80s and they were hideous and I was picked on by the other kids.

The whole current silhouette doesn't work for me, I'm nearly flat chested and anything the requires cleavage just looks sad on me. Long, perfectly straight hair? It's not going to happen for me and I really don't care anymore. Fake tans are a waste of money in my eyes and I'm not paying to get skin cancer and wrinkles. The overall whole look is just to perfect and really boring and I'm too skinny and funny looking to look like that.

Anyway, some other things about me: I've been collecting vintage fountain pens for six years now and do all my own repairs. I love old films, Charlie Chaplin is my favorite actor. In my spare time I like reading, blogging, writing and photography, but right now I don't have much spare time because I've been working a lot of hours. I'm writing a novel, but I have no idea when I'll be done with it. I haven't touched in since March and right now I only have time to write on the weekends.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the lounge. First of all, I’m not an native English speaker so please forgive me if linguistic errors should appear . I’m planning to buy an Aero jacket ( half belt FQHH) and was roaming the internet for more information. That’s how I got in touch with the Fedora Lounge. Personally, I’m more of a 50ies fanatic ( music, cars, design, clothing,…) but I’m broadening my interests to the 30ies and 40ies too (again cars, design, music, clothing, …).
Another passion of me is photography, digital as well as analogue. I own a 1955 Leica M3 and a Rolleicord which I use on a regular basis.
And if I’m not photographing, I roam the highways on my Harley bobber ( shovel 1972).
So this as a (very) short introduction. I’m sure that within time, more will follow.
