Indiana doesn't have yearly inspections. Some of the things I've seen going down the road make me wish we had yearly inspections.

Hi Kansas used to have yearly inspections. I took a 1978 Plymouth into the inspection place in 1983, I left Illinois with a brand new brake job. I took my car to a tire store to get it inspected. They said I needed a brake job for $380.00, I said no, they said I couldn't have my car back because it wasn't safe until I got new brakes. I asked to see the car, nope, OSHA regulations, so I had to pay $380 to get new, new brakes. The guy with the Caddy in line with me had to pay $800 for brakes and tires. A guy I knew who had worked inspections said that they made a 19 year old pay $1600 on a brand new Camero (less than 500 miles) because he was a smart A$$ and said that since it was a new car, they couldn't make him pay ANYTHING. Ooops. They put new tires and a new transmission in it if I remember correctly.

About a year or so later, Kansas got rid of the inspection deal. It was only on cars being newly licensed in the state. It was a TOTAL fraud job.

I remember that we had some random inspections in 1975 out here but it didn't last---Thank God! They make enough money off of us out here with the stupid emissions garbage. You can get nailed for more than that kid with is Camaro. God help you if you get labeled a gross polluter. :eeek::eusa_doh:

living in south Fl, we worry more about people going down the road with no insurance, no license, and no citizenship!

anyways... how did we go from hipsters to cars?!?

I understand that a lot of you are against yearly inspections. I was referring to the fact that I have seen vehicles going down the road with no front or rear bumper because it is rotted out to nothing. or that fact that it has a 2 x 6 plank for a bumper.
Well in places where it snows and you fellas use caustic materials on the road, it might be ok. Cars fall apart back there. Here it takes fifty times longer for a car to fall apart like that. A car with a 2 x 6 plank? That would be steampunk and Hipsters would love it. :p

I see that car weekly around my town...they installed a $2,500.00 "boom" stereo in it, to compensate for the body rot, cracked windshield, mismatched tires and the missing headlight/taillights. Not sure if I "observe" the actual owner of this "moving mess-mo-bile" driving it consistently or if it is loaned out to the rest of the gang of critters that drive it, but it sticks out like a sore thumb when it is out trying to "mingle" with the rest of the automobiles being driven down the road or parked in a shopping center parking lot and the current driver is attempting to figure out with the raised hood, why the car is no longer running.....whew...long sentence there! lol! I know this car is from the twilight zone, that is how it gets from Indiana to Michigan so "instantly"...lol! (perhaps some of the individuals connected to the car are as well)????

I've said it in other threads, and I'll say it again here -- the "hipster" ethos is all about cultural colonization. It's about taking the bits and pieces of other people's cultures and treating them as nothing more than playthings for their amusement -- just the sort of thing presumptuous middle-class white people have been doing for generations, just wrapped in a new label.
Postmodernism for Dummies. Po-mo ought to involve a basic respect and understanding of the source culture, even as one repurposes its artifacts.

Oh, sure, blame the Cadillac owners!

Ownership is too mainstream.

Where I come from, this is called an 'Adams County Steering Wheel.' I knew a guy who did this, but with vise grips in his '79 Silverado.

Yes, the poor owners of said vehicles. Hipsters will never want those. :p Good!

You knew a guy who drove with vice grips?! I suppose he didn't do many donuts. :p
