I love Louis Jordan and that song...thank you. Here's Louis at age 58 in 1966 playing "Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying" live. His voice and his playing is still top notch here as it was in the 1940s.

You are welcome Hadley :D... I may be in the minority; but I like the pace of this version of Duke Ellington's Take It Easy 1928 (the faster paced version). Most fans seem to prefer the more popular and slower-paced version of the song but I'll take this one anyday. I'd love to imagine a dancehall full of people going to town with this version of the song in the late 1920s/early 1930s. Yes, you gotta love those pre-Hays code films. I love this screenshot of Sam but it just has “creepy harassment” written all over it. Poor Effie, not paid her daily wage in the OTR versions and leered at in the 1931 film.:eeek:

I am really loving Wynonie Harris lately. If you are not familiar, check him out on YouTube. He's the largely unknown father of rock, IMHO.

I've realised that I find myself listening to music from plenty of places, but hardly any British or American bands. the good thing about getting older is that you don't have to worry about whether music is fashionable or cool etc.

The International Noise Conspiracy (Sweden)

The Blue Van (from Denmark)

The Prototypes (the best thing to come out of France since blue cheese and red wine)

And who can forget the wonderful ...

One of the highlights of the retro circuit in the UK is Twinwood Festival. Sometimes called The Glenn Miller Festival. Twinwood is the name of the RAF base that Miller took off from, never to be seen again.
Last year we saw an amazing German band Max Raabe & the Palast Orchester. I meant to post a link last year and forgot. Some of you, may have enjoyed one of their concerts, especially New Yorkers, they have played Carnegie Hall no less than four times. You will adore their dress style and you will love that Max not only sings in the same way as stars of the era, he also refrains from using any hand or arm gestures. Instead he sings just like those matinee idols, with his hands by his sides.
