Where can I find an A-2 made with this kind of old world craftsmanship? It truly is a breathtaking A-2. They just don’t make them like this anymore. What a “Golden Era” it was. Truly awesome.

What is it a Perry Sportswear? I can't read the label. There are several companies that make VERY grainy horse and goatskin A-2 repros. Here are a list of several of the better ones. Can't remeber if anyone is making a Perry though.

Aero Leather Scotland
Buzz Ricksons

I was just kidding. Look at the collar. It’s horrible. I’d never wear something like that.

Different shaped pocket flaps, a pointy collar on one side and rounded on the other, wavy stitching are all very common on original WWII A-2. Nasty, grainy, thin hides also very common.

I think you guys are missing the main point of my post. I would never go with something that was sub par just because it is historically accurate. I know that some of you guys have fun going after every last detail, so to each his own. I myself would rather have a zipper that actually works for instance. I tried on a friend’s modern repro with a period zipper and I couldn’t get the damned thing to work without 5 tries. That to me is ridicules. Cheers

I agree with the functionality if it is something I am going to wear. I just had the zippers replaced on a couple pairs of my vintage trousers. Better to be able to leave the restroom with a working zipper than to leave the restroom covering up.

I can't speak for for that zipper but I know most of the original Talons and Crowns that I've had on repro jackets are far better than todays zippers. How many originals do you see with 60 year old zips that are still working fine. WWII Coopers are not very common and to a collector could be worth a few$$$$.

My personal favorites are Dubows.

I have to respectively disagree on the zippers. I can zip a modern YKK zipper in the dark. I have had trouble zipping original zippers in the light. As far as appearances go, there’s no accounting for taste. And I can understand a collector being interested in the jacket for historical purposes. But if you were to see a jacket like this (with a non symmetrical collar) for sale today, would you buy it? I think not.

Speaking of missing the point...

I'm not convinced that by 'having a dig' at original flying jackets through a joke (which many of the members here collect & therefore were more than happy to come to someones aid here) was the best way to put a point across, as the point was mostly missed & has just caused some general confusion.

We all need to remind ourselves (myself included) to be specific & clear when starting our new threads and state what we intend to get from it, otherwise the whole thing gets very muddied. Enough said.
