1920s suits

Just got fitted for one of my 3 jazz suits today (yes you read that correctly I am looney enough to want to own 3 different styles of jazz suit). I plan on having some more "conservative" suits of the 1919-1922 period made as well. You can be sure that I will show them off on here once they are done.

When I posted this suit a few pages back, I realized the pictures showed the suit to be real lumpy and shapeless. Well, I FINALLY bought a mannequin/dress form, and I've been displaying the suit on it since I don't wear it often, so I thought I'd rephotograph it. Plus, since I've bought a matching 20's boater with a cool art deco ribbon, so here it is once again:

As there should be! IMHO out of the 20s-50s they are the suits that are most flattering to the wearer if he is a skinny to average sized gentleman. Or at least I prefer a suit that gives me a waist and double breasted suits that are tight wrapped with close button stance that don't make me look like i'm 4 feet wide and 3 feet tall...the drawbacks of being short. Theres something about baggy square cut suits (cough cought 40s) that offends my dandish streak and makes me feel like a square.

Objectively speaking, I would have to agree, 1920s suits look just right, slim fitting but not skinny.
Personally I enjoy the contrast between a slim fitting jacket and baggy trousers, so that's probably a 1930s visual language. I accept that it's not for everyone. I also like 1940s stuff, but I recognize that the epic shoulders aren't for everyone. Conversely, 1920s suits give me the impression that they would suit almost anyone who relatively slim.

Who knows when the clothing designers of today will jump on the 1920s (or the "Golden Age") in general ... And even then, it would only be an interpolation, a modern interpretation without the correct fabrics and construction details etc. pp. ... Sigh.

I have the same opinions, all though I wish I had the shape to pull of a 1940's style suit... how I long for huge lapels.

i'm still a big fan of the neat top - wide bottom silhouette of the 30s (especially with jacket off so the contrast is even more extreme i.e. wide trousers with tight tank top and shirt).
my recent interest in the early 20s is really just to give myself another option, and explore a new area. we fellas have so few options already compared to the ladies.
