I like the slate, something a little different. I just wish they'd start showing examples of denim as finished jeans and take away the guesswork.

If you open up the Slate on Gustins page they do have a photo of a finished pair. Not a complete photo but it's better than what they had before.

Ah yes. They need to do more of that. An former boss of mine told me how he once had a jacket made up based on a small swatch of tweed, and when it turned up, the pattern-multiplication meant the result was so retina-slashing that he only wore it a few times. :D

After reading through this thread and using one of the posted referral links, finally ordered my very first pair of selvedge jeans a week and a half ago (the #62 Japan Regular!). Today they sent me one of my own, in case anyone else is interested in giving Gustin a try... haven't received mine yet, so can't personally comment on the jeans themselves...

My 33 straight fits came very close to the advertised size (34"), maybe half an inch tighter. I wanted them to stretch to 35", and that is exactly what they have done. They stretched that much just after maybe 4 days of wear, and have not stretched any further after 2 months of regular wear.

If you measure your best fitting jeans out of the laundry, and then again after wearing them for a couple of days, the first number is likely what you want them to be new, and the second number is what you can expect them to stretch to. At least it's worked out that way for me. I've had a lot of jeans that get too loose after wearing for a couple of days, and those are NOT the ones you want to measure.

Just a heads up, Gustin just added a campaign for their Heavy American. This is a dark indigo denim with a classic red selvage ID from Cone Mills NC. It's the heaviest Cone Mills Denim they've ever offered at 16.25oz with a dense tight weave, and bonus it's at their $81 price point ($61 for first time buyers with a referral code). If you want a heavyweight denim with classic looks, this one is an excellent choice. I've been waiting for them to bring it back, and I just backed a pair for myself.

In my opinion people can just use the link of the person they like/know.

Just because I posted before you doesnt mean people have to use my link. If you like Butte (and who doesnt :D just look at his smile :D) just click his link.
