ok home now so can see the pics, hmm could possibly do with a clean? the lever however looks hard over to the fast setting that may be the problem? so towards the centre first if it's gaining 2 hours a day...don't force anything and if you're really not sure take it to a reputable clock repairer.

I'm sure both clocks could do with a good clean (the one in the kitchen is beyond grubby!) and that will be definitely on my to do list down the line. I moved the level ever so slightly as you advised and it's now only running 12 minutes fast which is a vast improvement (once I'm not relying on it for time-keeping!) so I will keep and eye on it and see if the lever needs another tweak.

At this point, getting it to be dead on is very delicate. A simple micro bump of the lever would just about do it if you shaved off nearly two hours that quickly.

+1 to what James said. I have been trying for some time to get a simple Baby Ben alarm clock regulated and the regulator seems to have only two settings: Too Much and Not Enough.
As sensitive as yours is, just touching the lever may be sufficient.

James, Rjb1, & Esteban68 - Well it seems my jubilation was a little on the premature side - the time is now 13.15pm yet my clock has now skipped into the not too distant future and now shows the time as 4.10pm! [huh]

I think this might be a job for the experts!

It happens Miss G, been there seen that done that, you could try going back the other way by very tiny increments over the next week or so...if that fails then yes a trip to the local clockmenders after it's a fairly rare item over here and probably worth the cost which should be no more than£100 max!

Dial it back a little more and see if makes a difference. If not then the hairspring could be messed up in it and needs replacing.

Great find! I saw one at the thrift store this past week for $10 but my small cottage can only hold so much and I have a chair for my desk...not as nice, mind you!

Good finds, VintageBee! I've had quite a few lucky finds in thrift shop record bins, and Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night" is one of the albums I gleefully brought home from Goodwill. I think I'm past 30 records bought from thrift shops, and all are clearly playable. Thank goodness they're cheap ... because they get addictive quick! :eeek:

NICE!

I like both the Ceres and the Maize patterns of this crockery, and have assembled a service for eight of old (1860's and 1870's) Ceres pattern Ironstone, mostly Turner, Goddard & Co, Henry Burgess, Forsters and Meakin. Am now in the process of accumulating a bunch of Maize pattern.

The early stuff has more of a bluish cast to the metal than does the more modern product. The relief is a bit more distinct on the modern production, too, and one doesn't find the little black carbon flecks in the glaze

Today I purchased a pair of very nice vintage dessert plates/bowls...dishes...whatever! They're small, oval and they have "VICTORIAN RAILWAYS" on them. I think they're from the 1930s. Victorian Railways lasted from 1859-1983.

Here's a few pictures:



About 6.5in. across, 5in. wide, about 1/2in. deep.





Both dishes are stamped and punched with numbers, which I suspect are manufacturing dates...





If that's the case, they come from September, 1933, and June, 1935, respectively.

Your guess is as good as mine, as to what they really are, but I suspect dessert plates or snack-plates or something, used on the dining-cars of the state railway company back in the early 1900s.
