Gustin Jeans Selvage Denim made in SF

I dont really understand why the rainbow jeans are so popular? Looks like normal jeans but with a hippie twist that isnt even that apparent......

I like the idea that as they fade the colours come through. The same with the green wefts. Interesting to hear that people are saying that the pics underplay the green tint are actually closer to a slightly washed out dollar bill.

Thank you for that. I'm interested in hearing other peoples experience. The Gustin I see going on ebay mention sizing issues quite often.

If you measure your best fitting jeans, and compare those measurements to Gustin's fit guide, you should do pretty well. I'm guessing folks who have fit problems are ordering their usual size rather than measuring their jeans.

I normally wear a size 36 trouser when I am at my current weight. When I ordered my Gustin jeans I used a size 36 Iron Heart that fits me well, but not at all loose, for comparison measurements. They are just a shade over 18 inches at the across the waist measurement. The Gustin 36's came in a little more snug than I like, but wearable, and they have stretched a bit after wearing all day three times. So, I guess you would call them comfortably snug by now. My first pair are the Heavy Americans and I am waiting on some Super Heavies to be shipped this month. So, in my case ordering my usual size after comparing measurements to the snuggest jeans that I own in that size has worked out okay. I hope that makes sense. I certainly could not have sized down at all from a 36. I haven't washed the Gustins yet; so I don't know how that would turn out. I'm going to give them some time and get my weight down just a bit before I risk shrinking them.

Wow the greyxgrey fade really quick! After three wears, it already has a perfectly distinguished phone fade.

Just to clarify. I'm not doubting anyone's ability to measure but I would like to hear other people's experiences so it becomes obvious whether Gustin's sizing guide is 100% accurate or hit-and-miss depending on the campaign.

Griff's feedback on the shirts was helpful in that I didn't order one because I now know they won't fit. Thanks for saving me the headache. Gustin's way to measure shirts is slightly different than what I would expect. I was in line with Griff's thinking.

Fitting into Gustin Jeans should be easy if you already have a good pair of jeans that you like. Simply measure your favourite pair, and compare those to the size chart on the Gustin website. If you follow instructions on how to measure the waist, then you should be good to go. I just received a pair of the "fifteeners", and they are exactly as expected per their fit guide. Now that I know the fit, I will be looking to add more of their offerings in the future. As for their shirts, I won't be ordering any unless they were to offer a "tall" version, as the length, sleeves, chest, and neck are too small for a normal XL

I'm wearing my pair of size 36 straight fit Gustin Light Left Hand right now. I would say that the fit is slimmer than my size 36 Ironheart 634s but not as slim as my size 36 666s.

I have a pair of Super Heavy on order. I went back and forth on whether to size down to allow for stretch as they suggest. It looks like I wound up going with size 35 (had to double check) so it will be interesting to see how the snug fit works out. My primary concern would be in the thigh. At this price point, it's worth a roll of the dice.

Wanz, I would agree with your assessment. My Gustin 36's are just a bit slimmer than my 634s Iron Hearts, but a good fit nonetheless.

If your in the Bay Area you can contact gustin and arrange a visit to their office to try a couple sizes out and potentially buy a pair there. That's what I did with my Heavy Japans.

53Effie, agreed... I'm very happy with the fit of my 36s... I just hope that I don't regret buying the Super Heavy in 35. My only "complaint" is that I wish they would offer custom length hems for an additional fee (like Selfedge or Iron Heart). Seems like a waste of their cool red chain stitching. On the other hand, it's another measurement to mess up. Plus, it seems like they don't have excess sewing capacity at this point.

After seeing how much my Heavy Japans have relaxed, i'm really considering going down a size. Anyone willing to trade a indigo/indigo size 32 for a size 31 (preferably another indigo/indigo)? Mlech415 (at) gmail (dot) com [i might consider a size 30]

I have a pair-the rainbow is really subtle. You wouldn't see it from new from the outside, only on the inside of the jeans (for now). From what I've heard, it takes wear and age to get the rainbow nep to show on the outside at all. Really subtle, just different.
Otherwise they look/feel just like a great pair of 13oz selvedge jeans!

Im sure they are great, I just see alot of people on different forums that are going nuts about them. Me...Im more nuts about the greycast and the naturals and different kinds of blue. Nudie jeans had greycast a long time ago and I never got the chance to buy them so I´m very exited about the slates.

I also would have liked to have backed the jade. I had a couple of dry japans "deadstock" that were supposed to look like they had been lying in a warehouse for 20 years and they had a green-shade and they were beautiful!! If the jade is the same then they should be awesome. I just need to get my first pair so I know how the sizing and cut works. Unfortunately my first pair is the indigo/indigo that are now 15 days overdue

About sizing, this is how I did it:
Knowing that my usual dry jeans never fits right after wash (too tight oucha) I decided to measure my jeans after worn and I used my Ironhearts as measure of the straight fit. The 634s is a size 34 and after worn they have stretched to 36" (lol i know but hey, i love food) and they are still not really comfortable, specially when driving or sitting, and as I now have a new job in IT-security there is a lot of time behind the desk or driving to clients, so i figured Im rather a little more comfy then looking great and get bluemarks on the belly so I ordered the 35. If they also stretch the same amount as the Iron hearts, they will be comfortable in the waist.

I see people do the opposite (get 1" less then what they use now...) but Im mostly worried they are too small since you have this window of 1-2" after wash depending on your gut it seems that too small is the worst, and too big well.....if they are tight they will stretch 2" and if they are comfy they will just stretch 1" thats how I figure.

So I got 1 slim pair (indigo/indigo) and 1 straight pair (the slate) both in size 35. Then I will have a good idea what size to get next if they dont fit but I like the cut. After hearing that the indigo is one of the stiffest jeans they have maybe I should have gotten them in straight, but thats how it is.

I found that the slim cut is quite slim-I mostly notice it's a lower rise, and the legs are cut slimmer. Their regular cut is on the slim side, too. I prefer the fit to be slimmer, rather than stretched out when they're worn. After losing about 30 lbs over the past 2 years, most of my jeans went to charity as they looked ridiculous on me.
I never thought I'd care about denim, but Gustin has made it a bit fun, although I'm hesitant to get another pair (I have 3) unless it's something different, like you said Griff. Like you, I like the other colors-I have a black, a light Italian (verges on gray I'm told-I'm colorblind) and those rainbow neps. I liked their Greensboro, but thought it'd be too close to the rainbows in outward appearance.
Shirts I'm not too crazy about so far, and the belt seems a bit on the short side for the stated size. I'm interested to see what the sweats are like, though...

I recieved my belt today. I like it quite a bit. Really looking forward to the green/blue gingham shirt. If it fits as well as I expect (accordiing to their measurements), I will be buying more of them.

I just backed the latest pair of Japan jeans.....looking forward to it. Hoping they fit! My weighs a bit up and down, have a couple of different wardrobes......fat me, and reasonably fit me. Problem is, I never when I'm going from fit to fat until Im there...makes it a bugger committing to expensive custom made jackets.....having said this, my good shoes always fit...

My Heavy Americans turned up this morning and I must say, I rather like them. They are a little tight in the waist, the website says 34" for a size 33 but they are nearer 33", but I think they'll give quite easily. Quality seems reasonable, (although I haven't had a good look, I just threw them on,) for the money, IMO. All in all I'm quite happy with them!
Would I order another pair?
