If you live in the LA/Orange County area, KDOC-56 is now running the original series at 8:00 pm. It was shot in the late '50s, takes place in the '30s, so if you like hats, check it out!

Marvelous b&w photography, and Robert Stack is still the best Eliot Ness. I'm a big fan of the movie, but Kevin Costner comes across sorta weak by comparison.

Stack remarked that he modeled his portrayal of Elliot Ness on
WWII hero-turned Hollywood actor, Audie Murphy.
Kevin Costner seemed miscast for the role, lacking charism and a
credible character fit.

The Untouchables (1993)

There was a second series on television in 1993 that was actually quite good as well. William Forsyth did a particularly good job and Capone in this syndicated series. Here's (David James) Elliot:

That's a good version as well. As I recall, it treated the subject matter pretty seriously instead of trying to "modernize" the story and characters.

That's the trouble with larger than life characters like Ness and Hollywood.
You get this idealized, dramatized soap opera for a story. :eusa_doh:
I'd like to see a more true to life version of the Eliot Ness story.
But who could play the part of Ness convincingly?

Yep, love those hats!

Another fun thing about the show is seeing all of those character actors. The other night, one episode co-starred Mr. Whipple, The Skipper, Rob Petrie's neighbor Jerry, Mrs. Hufnagel from "St. Elsewhere," and Capt. Stubing -- with a mustache, no less!

Yeah those old TV shows feature alots of actors before they hit it. Alyways curious. And the suits and clothing variety has also been quite interesting too. And the cars speak for themselves!

When you see some of those car crashes today you wince but we must realize in 1959 most of those dime-a-dozen Model As were just old cars. The word classic connected with cars didn't exist.:)

There was an episiode about hijacking trucks just like that the other nite where they chained the driver to a tree and William Bendix shot him.

I think thay was the one, Twitch. I haven't seen it since I was a kid, so my recollection is dim. Uncle played a lot of bit roles through the 60s and to us he will always be Uncle Meanie, one of Catwoman's henchmen in Batman - the episode where she steals the voices of Chad and Jeremy. There he is second from her left.
