Grüß Di' Fahrradkameraden,

Took a break from my modern mountain bike, and rode in the Washington, DC "Tweed Ride" the first weekend in November. I took 'Liesl,' my 1937 Truppenfahrrad, for a spin through downtown DC with 600 other riders. It was a great event and will definitely do the ride again.

Here's a pic of 'Liesl.'

And my vintage French rucksack with a little hitch-hiker!

Marty, the Marmot....he's always whistling at the girls!

And a pic of me playing my Hohner 'Bravi Alpini' harmonica during the ride.

Great pictures. When I'm stateside again for a while I'd like to participate in a DC Tweed Ride. I'm only about an hour from DC and I have a nice vintage Rudge. Though it does need a bit of work.

My vintage posterior can't deal with the tiny seats on upright bicycles, so I went modern. This German recumbent is my ride. I've added seat covers, fenders, and a rear rack. Both the front and rear wheels have shock absorbers. I can ride this for hours and nothing hurts when I get up.

Here's some pics from a few years ago at Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania. The bikes are all KilroyCD's. I don't recall bringing one of my bikes out to that event.

Virtually ALL motorcycle manufacturers started out making bicycles as did many car/automobile manufacturers too!

Don't forget Glenn Curtiss, he built bicycles, then motorcycles, and finally, airplanes. At one time, he was the fastest man on land and in the air! 136.36mph on land and 46.5mph in the air.

Precursors to the motorised bicycle (motorcycle) also 'I think' include BSA, Royal Enfield, Rudge, Indian...
I know that at some of the vintage bi cycle fairs I've been to they've had bicycles that have a motor/engine fitted. The start to the evolution...?
