1920s Tweed Shooting Day

A few members of the Philadelphia Vintage Society partook in sporting clays this Sunday in their tweed attire. Only two of us could make it this time, but hopefully this will grow as we make it a more regular PVS event. When the numbers grow we will be able to do a full shoot, with food and beverages (non alcoholic, of course) at the location.

Ooooh I like. Wonder if Chris Davis has seen this yet he might want to participate in the future. As might I. I haven't the occasion to break out my 8 panel cap in some time.

Philadelphia? Blast! Clear across the country from me. If I thought there was a chance of anyone else showing up, I'd schedule one out here on the Left Coast. I've got the coat, the cap and the Jeffrey SLE. All I need is company!

OldSarge, you may be surprised by the response if you put it up. The vintage crowd in LA is a strong one, whether they like firearms or not is another question (the state certainly doesn't like them, but that's another sermon).

LOL. The state doesn't hate the kind of gun I like, they just sort of ignore them. My local law enforcement (LA Co sheriffs) isn't even against them. It's just the kind of 'Barbies for Boys' they wish didn't exist! Anyway, just as soon as i can afford a case of 2 1/2" #71/2's, I may just do that. We do have several lovely local trap an skeet ranges around, even some sporting clays. We'll see what develops later this winter.

A bunch of us here in New York did the same last weekend. I'll try to share some pics. We stayed at a 1933 lodge in the Blue Mountain Reservation, in Westchester County. Quite a time it was, including a black tie banquet on Saturday night. But I must say, it was bloody freezing. Nevertheless, a grand time was had by all.

It was indeed wonderful. Menu was salad, chicken something something, broccoli with pasta bow ties and pesto, string beans, and . . . uhhh . . . I can't remember. Followed by GOOD apple pie, and later smores by the fire. And every kind of libation known to man (or woman), including Ugandan moonshine. Yes, genuine Ugandan moonshine, made with banana peals, among other things. Had a certain gin-like herbal quality. Nice being at an affair where nobody has to worry about driving because the bunk house (separate men's and women's quarters) are only about 20 feet away.
And yes, that's an 1889 Remington. We used only antique firearms.

Looked like a great outing in NY! I see a few familiar faces as well, perhaps we could all do one together in the spring?

For those interested in antique firearms, in the first photo of the Philadelphia outing (way back in post #1), the side by side shotguns we are carrying are both Fox models, mine (on the left) is a 12ga. Fox Sterlingworth with 32" trap barrel from 1917 (and made in Philadelphia!). Sam's (on the right) is a 20ga. Fox model from the 1940s.
