Left-Handed Rounding Jack

Here's my weekend creation, a sort of Rube Goldberg Left-handed Rounding Jack.

It uses an outrigger to help keep the jack flat on the brim, since I'm using round conduit. The handle allows for good downward pressure as I pull the jack counter-clockwise towards me.

The biggest problem is the blade situation, as I'm just using a clamp to hold the X-acto knife at the proper distance. It's still a little iffy, so I need to engineer something better, just haven't thought it yet. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

I don't have any tools, to speak of, so I had to use whatever I could find at the hardware store. This just took a screwdriver and a pin-vise to pre-drill the holes. If I had a woodshop, I would have tried building a traditional rounding jack out of wood.

The thing will still take plenty of practice, but it's better than the freehanding I've had to do in the past. I'm not that steady a hand!lol

You're so right, necessity is the mother of invention, though I know I wouldn't be able to build a crown iron like you did.

Maj. Nick, that does look like it could be adapted. Too bad it's $55. This rig I built was only $15, not counting the knife, which I've had for years. Hatting on a budget!
