Military style hair brush

Spoke to little Dan about this on the QM, thought I would be a little more precise.

Back in the 20's many men slicked their hair back. when they wanted to have their haie slicked back and shiny for a big event they looked past the comb and grabbed the military brush.

The brush has no handle, you run it through your hair like you'd run it through a horses mane.

Weeds out anything that wants to hang out on your scalp and gives your hair that patent shine without the seperating lines look a comb leaves.

I hear Kent makes good Military brushes, though I went the lowere budget route and bought the no name, made in Germany $15 model at the local Nordstrom's.
Wooden handle and 100% bristle.

I keep a Kent brush in a shaving kit up at the office. It's the best brush I own. I didn't know about the 2 handed approach. Learning something new all the time.

It massages the scalp, removes any dandruff and distributes the natural oils from the root to the ends.

I keep all that with a few other things here at the office.

I love my military oval brushes, even though they don't get so much use any more. For the best effect you definitely need to use two, as said above. Not so very long ago, Kent operated an eBay storefront which offered a good selection of their brushes, principally slight seconds, at a good price. I got a pair of military brushes, a brush for my daughter and an excellent clothes brush for a very reasonable sum - about ¬£20, I recall.

Whoa, the Kent one is a little steeply priced, Matt, do you have any idea where else to get a lower budget one that still accomplishes the same results?? No Nordstroms here in Tulsa

When I had 'longer' hair...

I always used such a brush (it's still in my drawer), but my hair is kept to a low maintenance level now!

Looking at that fine 'boy's' kit bag, reminded me of my continued search for a travel shaving soap container. But one that I have been trying to hunt out is a military one from the Napoleonic and Crimean wars when officer's had metal ones that wouldn't split under the extremes of temperatures as Great Britain expanded and defended its' Empire.

'That' would be a nice pairing with the military brush!!

I've seen this depicted in old movies many, many times -- a man grabs not one but two brushes to groom his hair. I always found those scenes intriguing; I certainly never knew that they were military brushes.

One can use these brushes regardless of what kind of goo one has in one's hair?

I have a Kent oval military brush made out of authentic bristle, though I don't think it's as nice a grade as that one, from Bel Air Beauty Supply for $45 I think. I don't use it too often because it makes my hair too flat, which for others may be a good thing.

I found an inexpensive one at Sally's Beauty Supply. I keep it in my desk drawer because it isn't as bulky as a full-sized brush.

I only use natural bristle military-style brushes on my hair. Having very thick, shoulder-length, wavy hair, I find the brushes to be much less damaging to my hair than regular brushes. The natural bristles also make you hair shine and makes your hair much smoother/less frizzy.

As has been mentioned before Kent operate an eBay store where they sell off slight seconds at knockdown prices ...and by seconds you might find one or two slightly discoloured bristles, nothing major.

I have always used Kent military brushes - even now when I have a lot less hair than was the case not that many years ago.

Kent brushes are great. I got one (I wanna say it's the model MG2 but I forget) for $28, as I recall. Very cheap, worth every penny. My friends with their 10 cent pocket comb can't believe that any self-respecting man could spent 30 bucks on a brush, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I usually use Brylcreem on my hair and the brush handles it just fine, and doesn't retain it if I want to go goop-less and still brush. It does a great job at cleaning and "ordering" hair too......there have been times when I've awoken, realized that I had to get to class in 5 minutes, no time for a shower and my hair looks as if it were the recipient of a hand-grenade attack. I can grab the Kent, and in 10 seconds my hair is fully presentable, with no water used. By comparison, if I used an ordinary comb, nylon-bristled brush, or what have you, it'd take at least 5 minutes and a generous helping of water to set things to right.
