Those new ones from Boneteria Auloronesa look good. What sizes will they be available in? Any colors other than black? I am pretty well supplied with black berets.

Ah, they're fantastic! I haven't worn any other since receiving my first sample. The first lot will be in a variety of diameters without headband (9.5, 10, 10.5 and 11 pouces = 265, 280, 295 and 310mm diameter) and also berets with headband in sizes 57 - 61. Black only, so far. I don't know if the manufacturer is planning to add any colours to his range of berets; can imagine he'll stick to the classic black beret. If any more options, you'll hear about it here.

The first order is made at the time of writing this and, depending on postal busyness around the holidays and the (un)-willingness of NZ Customs, should be available by late January.

I have a question to end this year.

I yearn for a beret. Always have. And I’ve reached the age where I can wear one without self-consciousness. Indeed I’ve ordered a Beret Bakerra from one of the thread’s more knowledgeable, spirited and vowed-endowed souls. And no, I have no idea what a Bakerra is or what I’m in for, except it sounds good.

In advance of this post, I resolved, for myself, part of the question, why the appeal? For one thing, berets are simple things in a complicated world. For another, they are uncommonly expressive, being both fashionable and entirely out of fashion at the same time. They add something no matter what your face or your outfit. Besides, I saw a fellow wearing one at the Phillips Gallery in D.C. recently, and he was the coolest guy in the room.

But another part of the question lingers, if someone can help. What about keeping the bloody sun out of my eyes?

Must I discard function for the sake of form?

Please ignore the count of my posts. I’ve been quiet guy in the back of the room for many years. So while I'm at it, let me add my thanks for all your thoughts, and wish you a Happy New Year.

Depends on the beret; the "civilian" (ie no band) models will allow you to pull the top forward and shade your eyes. The greater the circumference of the beret, the more you can shape it to your needs. Civilian (AKA Basque) berets are surprisingly practical.

Hello! The Bakarra is a terrific beret -- bona fide French authentic and a much nicer beret than where I began my journey. You're going to dig it, I'll bet!

Actually no. But depending on the model Bakarra that you chose -- for blocking rays, a larger diameter beret may be in order?! IMO, the larger berets have more material available to "drape" and you can sort of fiddle around creating a bill-like "ledge" configuration pulled to the front. (You can find pictures of Gauchos that illustrate this concept.) A beret can look different every time you plop it on your noggin, but you'll get your comfort zone look pronto just by trial and error.

...Oh, and if the summers get extremely hot where you plan to wear it though -- I'd personally go with an Argentina cotton-constructed beret rather than wool for those sunny days.

Happy New Year.

I agree with the 'pulled forward' method. But if in doubt (or small diameter beret) go some sunglasses - they also look good with a beret.

Ok. I was leaning towards without as well, I liked the easier fitting. Does anyone have the 150 Elósegui Edición Limitada? How does t compare to a super lujo?
