Not technically vintage, but not reproduction either. These are by Shuron, the freeway I believe they are called, and are still in production. They have several styles, from 40s to 70s, that have been in continuous production. I also have a pair of g-man/browline style from them, but the prescription doesn't seem to work as well any more. Getting them refilled is on my to-do-when-there's- funds list.

LOVE those, Dale. You have some quite similar already that you wear, don't you? These are classic.

I've got a pair of 1950's Shuron frames that I'm totally in love with, that a Lounger auctioned on eBay a few months back and I nabbed. Lenses are going in in the next month or so...

Thanks. These are the ones Keith. Progressive lenses are ridiculously expensive so I can only get my frames filled when insurance is willing to kick in, which is once a year. I'm hoping to get my other Shurons updated in the spring.

Ain't it the truth, brother. I'm so lucky in that I have befriended a local guy who makes bespoke eyewear and he is doing lenses at cost for me. Progressives are still a few hundred, but not twice that! These are my Shurons that are soon to be hoisted to eye-level:

Keith those are flippin AWESOME man. They look like old sidewinders. Basically the same lens frame as mine with beefier temples. They still make those, just not in the woodgrain. My g-man frames are a MUCH subtler woodgrain on the plastic parts.

Please excuse the crappy phone pics (and the kids dirty handprints on the wall). The last one I tried to show a close up of the wood grain. These are called black briar.

Beautiful frames. They are in fact called the Freeway; the Sidewinder is much chunkier with incredibly thick temples similar to the Ray Ban Wayfarer. Once upon a time, Shuron called the Freeway the "Mitch." I don't know when the name change occurred; Shuron used to offer a much wider variety of frames with some very interesting names, many of which somehow incorporated "Ron" or "Shur" (the one which immediately comes to mind is the Rondon, a square browline that I really think would sell well if it were sold today).

Oh, and dh, absolutely love the woodgrain. On my list of "to-gets" is a pair of woodgrain browlines with a gold chassis. Right now I'm obligated to only wear frames that we sell at our office, so, that's been put off for a bit.

ETA:

Here's a look at a vintage pair of Mitches. As you can see, about the only thing that's changed are the rivet covers.

Many thanks for the tidbit MisterGrey. The Mitch. I didn't know that. I can see where the Freeway might be a little more marketable, conjuring up images of the open road and Americana. Seems like a lot or products were, and still are, given manly sounding names for whatever strange marketing reasons. I've noticed it a lot with mens shoes.
Your pair look like they might be a dark brown fade. I would really like some brown ones myself one day, I'm hoping Shuron might offer that option in the future. I also am quite envious of those vintage grey woodgrains of Stuffsmith.
I really can't say enough good about Shuron. Those guys are super cool to deal with, and the fact that they are not one size fits all puts them ahead of a lot of manufacturers of vintage style frames.

Awesome, Keith. They looked good in the pic you posted, even better in action. I really like the way they lean forward, like a proper pair of wayfarers. Makes you look like you're going fast even when you're standing still.

Thanks, Dale! The unexpected benefit of the more extreme tilt of the frame is that I can look down to my work and the field of clarity is much greater than with my other specs. In layman's terms, they rock.

Thanks Chris! I'm seriously in love with those frames. Got them on eBay from another lounger. The first time I've bought frames sight unseen without trying them on, but they were so beautiful I figured I'd have surgery to fit the frames if need be.

Shuron is still in business and still makes Ronsirs. My optometrist said he liked the new ones better than the old ones because they now have interchangeable nose pads on the bridge, so you can replace them if they break. Apparently on vintage pair if they broke off, they were just done.
They are online, and are super easy to deal with. They sent me a box full of frames to pick a size and style from, then I just sent back the ones I didn't need. They didn't charge me any extra for this - I only paid for the pair I got. They are a page or so back in this thread.
Again, I can't say enough about their customer service. And technically, they're not reproduction frames, because they have never stopped mking them.
