Someone had too much time on their hands. Maped out a whole apartment that was never a whole unit to begin with. The set is never a whole apartment would be too hard to shoot always one side open for camera's and lights.

I think Hugh Laurie's Bertie Wooster is the benchmark for the upper class twit. But his 'House' accent is almost as believable as Dick Van Dykes Cockney in Mary Poppins

I grew up reading Wodehouse and I have to say the casting is excellent (even though I always imagined Bertie somewhat more chinless). For some reason those books (along with some other early to mid-century writers) seem to have entered my subconcious to a much wider degree than any other I read, which probably accounts for my peculiar outlook on life.

I love the kitchen, btw. The rest of the flat is beautiful but the kitchen is full of lovely details.

That flat is my dream London abode. When I win the Euromillions, it's a Deco pad in town (for shopping and the theatre, darling) and a lovely comfy Arts and Crafts pile in the country for me!

And I adore Jeeves and Wooster with Fry and Laurie. Never tire of it, always perfect viewing.

It was this forum which got me to J&W and I just received the complete DVD box from England. I heard it was on tv here in Germany too but you HAVE to watch it in english and not dubbed in german. If it wasn´t for the language and the humor, one has to watch it because of the suits and hats! P.G. Wodehouse´s books will be next...

I'm a great fan of the books and the series is one of those rare occasions where they didn't bugger the whole thing up with the adaptation. Laurie and Fry are magnificent, the writers did a really bang up job and the sets and clothing are marvellous.

Oh and I have a soft spot for Bertie's/Laurie's Aston as well

Also bought it recently. UK version of course but it's avaivable on the german Amazon marketplace too.

I already love this series.

i'm currently going through a box set of this series, never having seen it on TV before. although there are some amusing turns of phrase and one-liners, i have to admit that i find the plots groan-inducing. will stick with it for screen grabs of the costumes.

J&W stories are rather like boxed chocolates, scrumptious one at a time but you wouldn't try and make a whole meal by eating the entire box.

It was always amusing to me when Americans first expressed surprise about Laurie's being a British national in the wake of House's success. It was more surprising to me to see him in a role other than that of an affable, aristocratic nitwit, as I had only seen him as Wooster and George in Blackadder.

I find myself now wondering who might make a good leading actor if they were ever to put Psmith to celluloid.

I know so many people who, like myself, use it for stress relief because the plots really don't require any particular thought or engagement. You can relax and enjoy the sets, costuming, wordplay and general absurdity. If I'm really down, I just pop a couple of episodes in and sit down with a bottle of champagne.

I also just really like Bertie as a character/narrator. He knows he's not the sharpest tack on the bulletin board, though he keenly resents having it pointed out by others, and gets himself into awful messes by trying to prove that he might actually be competent at something. But he's just so fundamentally decent and well-meaning; he may be an idle layabout but there's no malice to him. Even cultured pearls inspire him to say, 'Which I still think is a nasty trick to play on a shellfish that's minding its own business.' Or something like that.

I introduced my friends to Bertie and Jeeves in college. I was walking through stacks one day at the library and happened upon the P.G. Wodehouse section. I had a vague idea of who he was and grabbed a book off the shelf at random and it seemed promising so I checked it out (I think it might have been "Jeeves in the Morning". A few days later I was walking home from and got a ride from a guy I knew in passing. He asked me what I'd been reading lately and I told him about this hilarious book I'd just got done reading. We became friends after that and spread our love of Bertie and Jeeves among the people we knew.

One Saturday a few friends and I spent the day going to all the thrift stores. We brought along a collection of short stories to read between stores. We'd each take a turn reading a story out loud and would often be laughing so hard that the others couldn't understand what we were trying to say. It was quite a fun day.

When the guy who gave me a ride and I heard that Jeeves and Wooster was going to be on PBS we were thrilled. We gathered around my 12" TV and tried to get the picture as clear as possible. We weren't too thrilled with the mixing of the stories but enjoyed seeing them none the less, although my friend said that he hadn't pictured Jeeves as looking anything like Stephen Fry and had the fat man often pictured on the covers of the books in his mind when he read the stories.

Anyway that is my history with Bertram and Reginald.
