I'm 99.9% positive that copyright reads 1939 not 1936.

The "paddock" is where the horses parade prior to a horse race. IE a Race Meeting as mentioned in the advert.

"Driving to covert" refers to hunting. A covert is a thicket where hunted animals hide. Hence the word "covert" coat, worn for hunting.

I think pairing it with white flannels and shoes would be a great summer look--just take a look at this illustration. I'm sure that's half a suit he's wearing, not a true sportcoat.

^^Yes, I've seen that illustration before, and that would be a great combination. I wore dark blue trousers for two reasons: First, it's winter, and second, because I don't have white trousers (got rid of them some time ago). Yet you're right about the combination, and I will be on the lookout for some white flannels.

White (cream) flannels would be perfect for the LA winters. Summers, not so much. Of course YMMV.

It's a great-looking sport coat. You, Damian, and a few of the other Southern Calif. members have great luck finding such specimens. Next time I'm in my old stomping ground, we might have to meet up and see if the luck transfers.

This is my winter lounge lizard coat. Really thick, heavy and padded. Was bit big on me so my current seamstress could add darts in front, I had nothing to loose

Color is much darker than in the first two, but that third is too dark. I really like this but it is really too thick for summer or anything that requires much physical activity.

A very special and interesting garment, I have to say.
Wonderful cut. Love the front darts and lapels. Also the seams at the back of the shoulders are quite nice - I know them from 1930-40's German suit coats.
Is it in any way marked or tagged?

Very nice! That's something you could wear as a piece of outerwear by fortifying with sweater, scarf and gloves.

No markings at all, liner is repaired in few places and still ripped/worn in few others. I thought previous owner was real party animal before A.C. Lyles gave his idea. Didn't even cross my mind to use it as outerwear

just weighed it and it is 3,4 lbs. Good to show here something and have new ideas how to use it. Now, where to get vintage turtleneck sweater.. I hope my few 30's/40's knitting guides have the answer.

Orphaned jacket from eBay. Found it in the modern section. Not sure of age and no tags of any kind to be found. I was told by Baron Kurtz it's possibly from the early '30s, which I agree with, in particular the narrow shoulders and very small button holes on the lapels, similar to another jacket I have dated 1933.
