Terrible tragedy. He lived on a boat at the yacht basin. I suspect that this was another example of the fact the alcohol and boats don't mix well. I've seen a lot of his work, he was very talented. RIP.

I just read the New York Post article about Michele Savoia's death. It looks like he slipped and fell of the gangway leading onto his yacht, where he lived. I imagine on such a cold and icy night, such a thing could have happen whether one had been drinking or not . . .

. . . Such a pointless and stupid accident.

Being around boats since birth, there have been numerous times that I've fallen off a marina walkway, in perfect conditions, while stone sober. Funnily enough, very few times while under the influence.

Savoia was found wearing the same raccoon-fur coat he had on the night he vanished.

Tragic as his loss is it is nice to know he had the privilege to die in the vintage style he triumphed.

From what I understand, Michael Savoia was the best tailor in this country by far (and priced somewhere in the middle with 0 outsourcing). Also, from what I understand, he was in the same league as the 3 Caracenis, the French and the Japanese (who are considered the best in the world by a significant margin).

BTW, did Michael Savoia have a house style? If so, what was it?

Unfortunately there are not many pictures of suits except the ones he wears himself. Based on his own appearance I would say the style is heavily influenced by american "sporty" suits of the 1930s to 50s. Broad shoulders, big lapels, drape, wide and high waisted trousers...but he breaks the vintage lines up with "gangster" and punkrock accesoires, heavy gold chains, wifebeater shirts, leopard prints.

Thank you, Flat Foot Floey. It sounds like Michael Savoia's house style was similar to Brooks Brothers cut (specifically, the sack suit, the original American cut clothing).

Savoia did a great fashion show years ago..in the late 90's maybe (the pics might be on that old Myspace link that I originally posted), where some of the guys were wearing very high waisted trousers with braces, newsboy caps and they were all carrying baseball bats. It was such a cool look.
