Have you not read, or heard about that raid? It isn't all gung ho! And it had some serious and very sad consequenses, nonetheless, the bravery of flying, wing-tip up/wing-tip down, straight down the main street, bombing through the windows, had to be admired, as did the tenacity of those brave pilots when they learned that 86 children and 16 adults died in that raid. The collateral damage in WW2 was never spoken about, but for brave souls, like those pilots, they not only knew, they lived for the rest of their lives coping with the trauma that such tradgedy brings.

Actually, I hadn't heard about it until the post on this string (which didn't mention the collateral damage from the bombing mistake). But, yes; in my further reading about it, I learned about the sad fact of the collateral damage. But by the same token, I am pleased by the fact they destroyed the gestapo records and freed the people they did. I'm sure the aircrew did bear a tremendous burden. Most combat veterans do, sad to say.

I am not usually into aircraft but I love it when I see Mosquito KA114 in the air at Warbirds Over The Beach in Virginia Beach

I just realized that KA114 is the plane that was discussed at the start of this thread.
