Air force Over coat

Hi Folks

My first time posting WW thread.

I picked this fabulous over coat up today at the local salvation army. Can anyone date the coat from the label?
There is no other marking...

Just a note on U.S. contract dates.

The year date in the contract is the FISCAL year of the award.

A fiscal year begins October 1st and ends September 30th.

So, this coat has a "64" in the contract number which means the contract was awarded sometime between October 1st, 1963 and September 30th, 1964.

Not to quibble, but the 10-1 to 9-30 fiscal year began in 1976. When this coat was made, the US Government fiscal year began on July 1st.

I stand corrected. :thumb:

Another consideration on the date may be if that contract had option years.

If there were, hypothetically, four option years the coat could have been supplied anywhere in that range.

Perhaps?

I seemed to be running into USAF clothing these days. Today I found a blazer and overcoat in super condition....
I will post better pics ASAP...
I really like the buttons. Circa date 1951 on both

Another look at the labels reveals that these were made in 1949 and issued in 1951...
Are these more desirable with or without the stripes?

Is there a market for early USAF uniforms? I've been stockpiling whatever I find. I have pants, shirts, tunics, about a dozen ties, a few saucer and flat caps. An overcoat or two I also have an Air Force bush jacket and an Air Force "Ike" jacket. Both are to my knowledge pretty rare. I also have an Air Force footlocker dated I think 1953. It's AF Blue with yellow stencils on the inside, the outside having been painted black over the AF Blue.

Hi Matt

A quick look at ebay and etsy would indicate not a whole lot of interest however I personally think the workmanship and quality is super.
It is refreshing to know that our military man and woman were defending our nation in style...

I would venture to guess that our current warriors are wearing clothing not even made in the country they are defending, How Sad!

I do hope the FL military experts chime for us..

Thank you for your reply. The term "horseblanket" is a proper name for theses beautiful heavy coats.
If by some chance I cannot pay my heating bill, I will use thses "horseblankets" to get warm in the Jersey winter.
