Now that is the MK bogie! A fine Optimo. If you folks have not read the thread about that hat, you have to. MK posted a great essay, and the story that follows is interesting.

Wow - holy cow... I didn't mean to stir up any trouble or anything. Let me just publicly, briefly, explain why I sign off with that, and not "Cheers," or "Regards," or something to that effect.

I sign off with "In Christ," because it helps to keep me in check. It represents the fact that I do not intend any of my posts to be offensive in any way, (other than in the occasion which we have come to witness here) and when I put that, I think, "Would Jesus be alright with what I've written here, or would I be making a bad example of myself as a Christian in saying any of this?" It's just something that I use to keep myself in check. Now, in PMs, I sign off with "God bless," that's different, it is a wishing of fare luck, and it's also a little more personal.

My signature, the Life Teen logo, and "Proud to be Catholic," is just an expression of my happiness at being Catholic, and the organization that helped me attain that happiness. So in a way, it is promotion for something, but I'm not going to go into huge detail about it and have threads about it and all that jazz. Undoubtedly however, you may see me quote Scripture once in a while, but I assure you it won't be in advertisement of anything, merely a cited quote.

Now... what we are indeed here for... hats.

Yes, the picture in my avatar is originally black and white in the film, however, the avatar isn't a screen grab, it's artwork, and I added in the text. So true, the hat could be gray, but it's generally accepted that the trench coat was a light khaki. On the fashion side of things, apparently shades of brown are neutral, which means he COULD have worn the gray and brown... so it's all very debatable, easily. I heard that Daniel Riser got his hat for a mere $30, a steal!!! And his hat amazes me - I saw it at the IndyGear Queen Mary summit, and my first view of it was from the back... I recognized the colors, and as soon as I saw the C-Crown, I was wiping up my drool. Does Art Fawcett sell any Bogie fedoras?

Please do not be offended by my proclaimation of Christ. I don't mean to cause any trouble.

"...peace be with you all. Amen." (Romans 15:33)

I agree that it is a great looking hat. The avatar photo has many touches that lend to the overall look...transom window, frosted door glass with lettering, etc. My avatar should look so good. MK, does that hat have built in taper, or is it the photo? I prefer a slight taper myself.

As far as BogieMcFly's exit line statement of faith; I am an adherent of Orthodox Judaism, and I find nothing offensive about it, in fact it is quite refreshing to find a young man expressing faith in something other than a dollar. It may not be my faith, but it is faith nonetheless, and I respect it as such.

Thanks. It does have a bit of tapper....just like Bogart's Falcon fedora.

I agree on the refreshing comment. The ACLU has strangled the faith from our conversation. They have brow-beat the public to thinking it is wrong to express faith. Shame on them.

Hmm... I prefer the Casablanca fedora, myself. Actually, I don't think I can tell the difference between the two, but I know I like Mr. Bogart's style very much. What are the major differences between the 2 hats in Falcon and Casablanca?

difference? It can be found here click on the hat, then choose men's hats. From there, choose Humphrey Bogart....I think you get the idea now. Also, the Falcon hat was just plain better LOL

Kentucky -- thanks for the site. I knew there had to be some place where Bogie hats were compared.

Re Casablanca photos: Is that a Panama being worn by Paul Heinred? I remember he wore a whitish hat in it, was it straw?

Also, why don't I look like that when I try on one of those lampshade hats Ingrid wears? All I look like is a goofus wearing a lampshade. Oh, well....

I want to get out some of those old Bogie films and check out the hats. He made so many films, I don't know where to start.

Does anyone remember what he wore in Dead End? He played a bad guy in it, so maybe more gangsterish? I will have to check.

I find that that site is rather hard to find....MK really oughta make it more obvious on the board. I know that the board is a part of the site, which would mean that it would be kinda obvious...but when more people know about the board than the site, ...yeah, I'm sure you can see where I'm goin with this. Hey MK! Post a big link to the main site somewhere! :D

It is right under your nose

Oh, come on, I never look under there! Seriously though, I've seen that before, but I rarely scroll down far enough to see it...Everybody scroll down to the bottom of the page from now on!

Karol, I know this is gonna be an odd question and abit OT, but you dont happen to be from Germany originally by any chance would you?

I used to know a "Karol" who would hang out down in SD who was from the NRW.

Anyway back to the Bogie hat, his hats look a little beat up, look at he crown, the pinch also looks a little "broken in" I guess the Fedora I have looks more like one from a 30s gangster film, but its close enough for the cash ;)

Duce --

I did have one great-grandmother who was from Germany. The name "Karol" is a man's name in Eastern Europe (I share my first name with the Pope). Most Karol-with-a-K's I have met in the U.S. are midwestern women. I have not run across anyone out here with that name. I was born and raised in Iowa, spent 13 years in New York City, then moved to SD.

I checked out the Bogie hats, among others, at our Village Hat Shop and also online. I think the hat you scored is the best of the decently priced fur felts. They had a black Bogie hat there for $200 that was an upgrade of the standard hat -- it had a stitched brim, was a softer fur felt, a bit fancier -- but I think the under $100 ones look just as nice.

I bought a Stetson Weekender; it is bronzine in color, has a thin band made of pheasant feathers and I think it looks more "Indy" than the Indy hats they sell. It was $108 and I am wearing it as I write this post. I can never get out of that place without buying a hat!

Bogie Fedora

Try Az-tex hats. You can find a decent Bogie fedora and one they call the Casablanca. I have a Casablanca on the way and I will let you know how it turns out. I got the Dark Gray one. Try this link: http://aztexhats.com/category/hf/

Hope it works. If not try puting Az-tex hats in your browser and it should come up.

Don't worry about showing a statement of faith. It is your right to show it just like everyone else. I dont agree with some of the views in the lounge but I believe everyone has the right to their opinions, and by the way, I agree with yours. I have been a Born Again Christian ever since I was 14 years old and I am 36 now and I will never be ashamed of it nor will I ever be politically correct.

Akubra Bogart

Akubra makes a Bogart and I recently ordered one. I'll let you know what I think of it when it arrives, but hey, it's Akubra, so what's there not to like about their quality? Here are some images of their Bogart:

The Bogart is a modern classic 40's style fedora - made famous by its namesake, Humphrey Bogart.
Pure fur felt
The snap brim is 64mm or about 2 1/2 inches wide with a bound edge.
The hat band is a top quality gros-grain ribbon.
The crown is 100mm-4” high.
Colors are Black or Grey
Classic fedora style
$91.00 from www.australiangear.com -
