James, that is very interesting! I didn't know that bout the Ink Spots. I did know that they were rather popular in the 30's and 40's. Didn't know about the TV thing. That's a bummer that it's not recorded any where. :cry:

Oh well, that's life I guess.

Ezzactly! I knew that at one time, but had forgotten. Thanks for the link...I'm going to check it out. I forgot to mention that I actually saw Cab perform twice in the 80s...once at Carnegie Hall in New York (did I have to say that?) and once at Massey Hall in Toronto, another famous venue.* He still had it!

One of my favorite recordings is one of Cab Calloway and Al Jolson singing I Love to Singa. Each of them takes half the song and really Swings it.
Al and Bing do an interesting job on Alexander's Ragtime Band as well though. They are just two different types of genre. I burned a CD of a bunch of my oldies for my aunt---who was in her late 70s at the time. She said she never heard of some of my music! Gee, Am I that eclectic or is that ecentric? LOL LOL

You know, it's funny how we know of some songs that most people of that generation didn't ever experience! I was told by my grandmother that I know more about the 30's and 40's then she does. It may seem strange, but I grew up in the 80's and there is some music that I never herd of that was popular.

As I have collected records and such I know how vast the selection is, just in Jazz! It is truly incredible how much music was recorded from 1926 to 1946. There are songs that were written but never recorded! Dean Mora the band leader has gotten hold of some arrangements that were played by Hotel Dance bands that never had a record contract! So, the first his band played these charts, it was the first time they were ever played since the 30's!

So, I don't think there will be an end to what can be found in vintage music. I sure don't know every thing about it! But, I'll keep learning more as I go.

Wow!! , thank you Wild Root, this radio station is great! We don't get too much eclectic radio up here in Red Lake. Stuff like this brightens the day and makes you feel good. The girls in the office think I'm nuts..but I won't be surprized when I hear it coming from their office computers.

Did you guys know?

Dismuke is a member of the Lounge! I've seen his name logged in a few times here and there.

XM, over the last couple of months was playing EVERY charting tune from the '20s to 2000. It was special to hear tunes that time (and folks) have seemingly forgot, plus with all the popular, over-played faves mixed in... and the whole thing was in chronological order. I started with the '20s, gave up in about '49, then came back for the '80s.

Hopefully, they do this again.

And has anyone seen Ghost World? Some of the conversation in here is like the part Enid and Rebecca attend

Yep, I know ol' Dismuke, he's a good guy! He's a fried of mine on Myspace as well.

You left off in '49 an came back for the '80s? What about all that good 50's “Doo Wop” and rock? I find the 50's to the 60's more tasteful then the 80's... Bill Haily rocks way better then those "Big Hair" bands; it's such a growing trend the 80's... what was so great about them? Soon as I found an oldies station, I listened to that and tuned out the pop music of the time... yeah, I've liked music of other generations more then my own for a long time.

I hold '50s pop in the highest regard... it's where my "old stuff love" started. I should have been Buddy Holly's wife, but I was born too late (like the Poni-Tails sing...)

I can't compare Haley to big hair bands of the '80s... totally different beasts. But like Deckard on here, there's just something about the '80s.

I have so many fond childhood mems of singing Cyndi Lauper at the top of my lungs while jumping on the bed, and then a few years later discovering Louis Jordan and bopping around the house to him... it ain't easy straddling decades!

I hope XM does this again soon. It's something that probably wouldn't work on terrestrial radio.
