Did everyone angle park their cars nose into the curb back in the Golden Age, or did they park end-to-end side-to-curb as we do now? Was there a combination of these? Any photo examples?

Depends on the location and situation, I think. Lots of towns used the angled parking, but I know that downtown Fort Worth here has pretty well always used parallel parking, as seen in these photos from the '20s, '30s, and '40s:
