I must agree, when Hem and I first met he made me this Italian sandwhich, and I was hooked. So, hooked, that I can't eat any other Italian hoagie. Unless, they are a WaWa Italian hoagie, which Hem also introduced me to. Lot's of sweet and hot peppers and the meats are sliced nice and thin.

Hem, you forgot to mention BLT's. I thought next to the Italian, these were your favorite sandwhiches.

Sometimes I like to make a sandwich of fresh buffalo mozzerella, fresh basil leaves and ripe tomatoes on homemade rosemary and seasalt focaccia bread with a drizzel of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

MMM, this thread sure is making me hungry....

But this is about sandwiches. The muffaletta is a muffelatta, not a muffaletta sandwich! That would be like saying "tuxedo suit!" Seroiusly, though, Central Grocery has the original, since 1906, but it's hard to park down there. I kinda like the toasted one, with the olive salad on the side, from Mark Twain's on Metairie Road.

Oh, and a common NO pronunciation is "moo fa lotta" . . . Tom

My old standby is the tuna and tomato sandwich, but lately I've really gotten into warm turkey with gravy from a sandwich bar in town. Mouth-watering!

For me being the vegitarian, Ive made it my quest to find a good substantional veggie sandwich.

Multigrain breat (lightly toasted)
Mustard
Veggie cold cuts (Tofurkey to be specific)
Avacado
Onion
Spinich (Pre national scare)
And swiss cheese

The cardiac arrest

I don't care for the chain sandwiches; Subway, Quiznos, Miami Subs et.al. I like a sandwich from a small deli. No matter where it is I've been ordering this for the past 22 years; Salami, Pastrami, Roast Beef on a french roll, lettuce, mustard, mayonaisse and pepperoncini.

And when in Florida, I never order a Cuban Sandwich. It's a disgrace to sandwiches.lol Reminds me of a packed lunch thrown together in a rush in the morning to catch the bus.lol

schwarma

I love schwarma and felafel sandwiches.

There is a VA'AD Kosher market about 20 minutes from my place. They've got the real deal as far as "Israeli style" schwarma goes. I get mine loaded up with veggies and 3 kinds of schug (a Yemenite style hot sauce). They've got green, red and then a kind with chopped onions and hot peppers. I also get tehina of course.

I just might get one tomorrow!

Has anyone here ever tried Shish Taouk? It's another treat I discovered in Montreal -- a kind of a Lebanese pita sandwich you can get in any number of little storefront joints. There's usually a big revolving skewer in the window with marinated chicken roasting on it -- and a short order cook with a sword or a long knife shaving very thin slices off it as it turns. This goes into the pita along with with a garlic-mayonnaise sauce, cucumber slices, diced tomatoes, and lettuce. It's the sauce that makes the sandwich -- every shop has its own blend. It's perfect street food, rolled up and served in a foil cone.

When we were visiting my sister and brother-in-law in Manhattan this summer we had pastrami's and corned beefs at Carnegie's.

Oh my.

I'm going back in December to see my new nephew. I'll be going back to Carnegie's for sure.

A breakfast sandwich of sloppy goodness. I always stirred in the eggs and hashbrowns to make breakfast stew.

Forgotten? Not when I'm around!

Other likes:
mortadella doused with mustard and veggies on Italian/French bread.
Swiss or sharp English cheddar, served likewise. (Mustard is good on everything. Except your eyeball. Ouch.)
Marmite and peanut butter on wholewheat toast. Yum!

Gyro for sure -- my favorite meatype in the world is lamb as you don't often have the choice to put that in a sandwich.

How about the Monte Christo? -- now that's a weird vintage American sandwich.

In Rochester, New York it is pronounced sangwich. Some citizens try to be cute and say sammich or sangich. The listing on the menu at Rohrbach's brewery and restaurant is "Sammies". It is in this city I was introduced to the horror of a fried baloney sangwich, back when children were left alone and used the stove.
But the thread is Your Favorite Sandwiches? and mine are grilled cheese, tuna melt, patty melt, and egg salad. Or whatever someone puts in front of me.

Ooh, Monte Cristo. Gimme that syrup!

There's a place here in Brooklyn that does this with lamb.

Yum! That place is ALWAYS crowded with lines up the street.

I'm not much for cold cuts. I'll take a simple tuna and egg on toast or even peanut butter and jelly. For awhile, I LOVED pastrami and swiss on rye with mayo and mustard but, I haven't had that for years.

My favorite sandwich right now is a crispy pressed panini with mozzarella cheese, tomato, basil, and a dash of olive oil. It's just simply heavenly. I had one at a small cafe in Milan when I was little and my mother makes them on occassion at home.
I do love getting sandwiches at delis- a good Reuben, tuna melt, grilled cheese, BLT, Phlly Cheesesteak, Roast beef.......yum. With a bottle of cream soda...even better.
