Squeaky Leather Jacket Problem SOLVED!

Anyhow I shagged a really nice Lost Worlds A1 for a great price on ebay a little while ago, but the jacket squeaked terribly. I posted here looking for answers, thinking that the "heavy heads" on this board would have some sage advice. No soap. Even such authorities as H.D. said they sold their own jackets that were tooo "loud." Long story short: I didn't give up and found this advice on the internet and IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM! I rubbed unscented talc into the seams then put it in an unheated dryer with three tennis balls . The only tricky part was finding unscented talc. I finally bought some on ebay, where it is used in some way with old-fashioned fountain pens. I could sense it working as soon as I started. Now I could wear it a classical concert without a smidge of concern.

What can I say? Another job well done.

Thank you very much for sharing this info but oddly so, I've never had a jacket that squeaked, ever! I actually had to go to youtube to hear what it sounds like, when I first read about the 'problem' some time ago.

You shagged a jacket?? I love my jackets, but damn....

shag
verb [ trans. ] Baseball
chase or catch (fly balls) for practice.
ORIGIN early 20th cent.: of unknown origin.

I forget you guys on the other side of the pond speak a (slightly) different language. I really think any "red-blooded American boy" would know what I meant "right off the bat."

Ive never heard shagged used in this context before. When I read it I thought that spellcheck had monkeyed around with snagged, a word used often in this context.

I've heard of "shagging flys" a baseball term, but never shagging any other item. But hey it works for me. Hell when I worked in North Cackalaky "The Shag" was a dance for goodness sake. Thanks for the tip. My GoodWear Bronco squeaks like a herd of rabid mice, so I may try this someday.

Yep. The Shag is a dance here. Its done to beach music (think: The Embers, The Drifters, Smokey Robinson, Wilson Pickett, The Tams...) and the dancers are usually dressed in wrinkled oxford cloth shirts, khaki or madras shorts and Bass Weeguns.

Shagadelic! Ok, I will have to try it out on one my A-2s! My friends have been laughing at me for wearing a leather sofa......
But tumbling the jacket?

Any red-blooded Brit would think you like shagging jackets...

So if you got a bargain on a German Shepherd for the family, would you say you shagged a new dog the other day???

Gotta love language discrepancies...
