Wow Lilly your Bakelite collection is to die for! I especially love the anchor dress clip.

Epr25, you have an amazing collection of Bakelite and lucite bangles. Gorgeous, and the stand is perfect!

I did a blog post on Bakelite today, a sort of guide for those beginning to collect it. I also have a guide on Lucite. Next up is one on celluloid. ;0

I have a modest collection of Bakelite items myself, carved and uncarved: about ten bangles - black, apple juice, butterscotch and yellow. And a few brooches.

It can be so tricky to buy bakelite online because you really need to use all senses to tell for sure (i.e., smell/rub test, sight (seamlessness) test; sound/clink test. As a seller, I also use the simichrome test.

Thanks for the fakelite link. Very informative. I try to just buy from dealers i know who are reputable, or wing it on the odd occasion i see a bargain that is to good to miss. So thanks again.

My latest purchase, (although sadly he is being repaired at the moment so i can't photograph), is a large, yellow bakelite heart brooch with an owl in the middle. So cheery, i can't wait to wear it in the spring.

Carved celluloid is so dreamy. That scotty dog is AMAZING. I love celluloid bangles, but I always swoon over unconventional pieces, like this ring:

I've been adding to my carved lucite brooch collection over the last few weeks and did a blog post about it, now they are going up in price! Coincidental…not sure…

The two above I purchased separately, but I felt they were soul mates.



This was my first goggly eyes lucite brooch. Her name is Mildred.
