What kind of accessories hbk?

On other news, I think this jacket may be from sometime between 1900 and 1906. Did a little research.

Something along these lines:

A soft or stiff fronted shirt with a rather tall collar, some unpleated trousers and perhaps a high buttoning vest. Finding a suitable tie shouldn't be too difficult either; looking at pictures from the era, apparently all sorts of flappy silk things were used.

So, I've had this (what I believe to be a) orphaned suit jacket hanging in my closet for a while. I haven't gotten around to having it altered, as you can see in the photos. I had always just figured it was just a classically styled 80's jacket. (which is why I wasn't in a rush to have it altered.) Looking at it now, I think it might be a 50's jacket. Sadly, there are absolutely no tags or marking of any kind on this jacket. Also, strangely, there is only one breast pocket. I assume that that was a thing at some point, but I haven't a clue as to when. What are your thoughts?

I would show the inside of the jacket, but the editor doesn't seem to like those images. [huh]

It's a late '40s to early '50s jacket.

I'd be inclined to replace those brass buttons with something vintagey, to accentuate the vintage look and give it a more civilian vibe.

Indeed! In particular buttons that would never be seen on a military jacket, like marbled brown or beige.

As per Fastuni's request in the WIWTD thread, here are close ups of the buttons from the teal sportcoat documented in this post. This jacket is a bit of a mystery to me - it seems like a 30's jacket to me, but being bespoke, who really knows. The buttons seem pretty unique.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that the chunky front buttons are not original to the coat.
They give me strong late 60's - 70's vibes - maybe the sportcoat was "updated" in that period with fancy buttons. Maybe others can chime in with their take on them.

I'd wager the guess that the original buttons were caramel rimmed ones like the small collar latch buttons. These are typical 30-40's.

If I were in your shoes, I'd swap the buttons with simple period caramel/light brown rimmed buttons.

By the way... the fabric really is beautiful.

I put together a couple of outfits to show off some of my coats.
Man, selfies can be hard work! [huh]

but I think I have developed a system that works.

This one is modern, by Italian designer Mario Matteo. A bit serious in dark grey, but with some nice features, like the high buttoning and peak lapels.
It is my go-to versatile sports coat.

I don't know what to call the fabric, it is stretchy wool, which looks to be finely knitted. Wool jersey?

This one is probably from the 1960s. Looks rather classic/in the spirit of the 1930s to my eye. Very heavy ginger herringbone tweed. Feels like armour. Yes, the sleeves need to be taken down a bit.

This outfit is extremely warm. I like the look of it, but I have a hard time seeing myself wearing it indoors at any time of the year without taking off the jacket!

I think your theory is probably sound Fastuni. The chunky buttons are strange - they work, sort of, but seem very different from any buttons on any other vintage garment I own. Also, why are there two throat latch buttons, but only one throat latch that is stitched to the lapel?

I'll keep any eye out for suitable, caramel colored buttons when I go poking around the thrift/antique stores. There's usually a drawer full of vintage buttons in a place or two.

And Metatron, those are beautiful jackets! I especially love the ginger colored tweed. May I trepidatiously suggest, however, a tie with more contrast in that outfit? Perhaps one that picks up one of the bold colors in the fair isle pattern?

I like those because of the functionality. I find it annoying when I have an otherwise warm two button that lets all the wind in...
Probably mainly a cycling problem.

And thanks for the suggestions Patrick and Two Types, of course they are more than welcome. A second opinion is essential.
Here I was looking to go with a drab tie so that it would not be competing for attention with the jacket or the vest.
But all in all there might be a bit too much brown in the outfit!
