Hi all!

I wonder if you could help me identify two very nice vintage jackets weared at some moment by a movie star... TC. Love them both but cant find any reference.

Here are they:

Hard to tell, seems like a pretty standard Cafe Racer. In any way, while some of the members of TFL may know, when it comes to movie jackets, your best bet is to try asking at http://www.filmjackets.com/forum/
Excellent, very informative place with great members and I'm willing to bet they already got this one solved.

Cruise likes his cafe racer style leather jackets- he wore one almost entirely through the whole movie Jack Reacher.

Thanks. I'm affraid nine of them was weared in a movie. I guess both were used in "private" situations, that's why I didn't ask in the other forum you suggested.

I've already tried very hard to identify both, but with no success :(

P.s.: anyway, just went to filmjackets but I'm unable to register myself... Closed for vscations? :D

It looks like a fairly standard cafe racer style so hard to tell the brand, but I once owned a vintage Schott cafe racer that was very similar. Unfortunately it was too big for me so I sold it on eBay. It was my size but the zip out liner was missing so it felt like a size too big. Gutted!

That second one looks too big for Tom.

The mandarin collars on these are a bit different to the norm. They are more like a Brooks jacket - particularly the top one. Two snaps on two even sides. Reed and Harley Davidson did similar collars to this too. Mostly with a cafe racer you get one side of the collar being much longer than the side, as seen on this old Brimaco.

After some research I'm now convinced the bottom one is a harley davidson. The top one could well be a brooks but the back of the jacket (other photos on the same event) is a one piece only panel, which I could not find in any brooks jackets. Tipically, these have a kidney panel in the back.

Let's see if someone can confirm it as a brooks...

Well, that of course only means the costume designer for that film liked them.... ;) Though he is[?i] a big enough name, I suppose, that if he objected strongly they might bend. He does seem to wear that style a lot on his own time. The ones in the photo of the OP are a little roguh for me - look like a good dose of Pecard's would do them the world of good! They aren't form fitting in the way most here would prefer that style, but that could be to personal taste. I'd also say they both look a little on the long side for Tom, but that could be a combination of vintage jackets in a regular length and a wearer who is famously dimunitive. I'd consider that more likely than them being cut long on purpose for him (to cover the lower back better when crouched over a modern bike / keep the wrists covered when arms are outstretched in a riding position). Still, nicely designed jackets.

lp01, if you're looking for something generally in the cafe racer style, you'll find some very nice options from Aero (Cafe Racer, Board Racer), Lost Worlds, and others. Not sure whether you're looking exactly those models, though? Information above would be a bit of a steer, anyhow.

I know very well several possibilities for a brand new cafe racer: vanson, aero, scott nyc, etc.
Nevertheless what I really like about those 2 jackets is the vintage/ wore look.

I'm not a TC fan; just came across those images accidentally and thought he might bought it 2nd hand. Since I like the cut of both jackets I will probably be able to find some, both cheap and for the scuffed side :)

I just noticed that almost all brooks jackets have that "storm flap", which the brown one does not have. So... Another feature driving away from the brooks theory for the brown one (he could also got rid of the flap, that's what I would do if I by any chance find a nice brooks cafe racer!

Cheers

Edit: corrected vans to vanson ... That's the result of having to kids always crying for a new pair of vans ;)

I didn't think any of them were Brooks they just had a similar symmetrical collar. By the way, Brooks jackets in that classic pattern are still made and you can buy them for under $400. Three oz steer, American made by the re-booted Brooks company. Black only. I'd like to see one.

However, if you don't like the wind flap why not get a Buco j 100 copy? No wind flap, symmetrical, neat mandarin collar and simple 2 piece back.

Real bucos are usually very expensive and I don't like the big gap between the end of the zipper and the end of the jacket.

Anyway I'm not looking forward to buy one new. By professional reasons I must use a suit on a daily basis and it would take ages to break in a new jacket until it looks good to me. That's why I would prefer to buy a well looking vintage.

I wrote Buco copy. I love the space at the bottom of the zip, it looks cool and makes the jacket easier to wear when sitting - especially on a bike. But I hear you. I'm sure you can find a cafe racer you like for bugger all money on eBay. There are hundreds, maybe thousands out there.

I already did buy one on ebay! :D

Received it today (well, a relative of mine received it, since I'm on vacations).
Black AMF harley davidson sportster, with just one breast pocket and nicely scuffed...
Now looking for a brown one.

What's the word on the Brooks jackets? The price is right, but it's hard to tell anything by their website. Anyone have experience with them?

I've not seen a new Brooks but I hear they are much heavier than the originals which were barely 2.5oz thick. The newbies are 3oz steer and with an inside pocket the originals didn't have. I would have bought one but they are too short for me. The 42 is 25.5 inches long, I need 27 inches. So they are shorter than the old ones too, I've had a bunch of the originals and they were all 26 to 27 inches long.
