Thanks fellas! I probably will have to take off the trim to finish the brim with the rounding jack. I thought I could get away with cutting it with scissors since I do it all_the_time with rabbit velour felt that I use in my ladies shop. I do a 1930's women's slouch fedora there and have never been dissatisfied with the look. Must just be something about the beaver felt [huh]
My husband's hat was my little guinea pig....I have a black cherry in 100% beaver on a 7 1/2 block that I am going to finish up as well now that I've figured out these subtle differences between rabbit vs beaver and mens vs womens. I'll post pics of it once its done!

I saved this 'Woodrow' today off the local flea market, actually it's better than it looks;
it's dusty but the felt is nice and soft and has no mothing at all, size is 7 1/8 so a little tight( it may have shrunk?) the leather liner has dried out and the ribbon is shot.

Esteban that hat is glorious! You can do a lot with a hat brush and steam to clean up a hat but I wouldn't change the shape of that hat at all.

Finally my other blue western was liberated from customs.
It's a Stetson 3x beaver. Maybe it have 30 years or more since hatmakers stopped offering 3x beaver hats long time ago.
^^ the Billy Kidd looks black but it isn't, it a darker blue than this 3x beaver. Need to take another picture in the morning.

Finally got the guts to search for a hat store. They are not very common in Portugal since hat wearing declined a lot a long time ago.
This store supplies hats for folclore groups and I decided to take one made of wool for my collection since they are made in Portugal (and they are cheap!). I believe this is a felt made by FEPSA.
This one have a 4.75" brim and a 5" crown. The sweatband seems to have a very thin reed and is made of sintetic leather.

I just picked up this funky hat off of OFAS. It is a conundrum. (So Brad Bowers, I'm hoping you will chime in on this one) Seems to have a 30's-40's sweat and block. However, the hat ribbon has a funky twist opposite the bow and at the bow and the funky twist, there are two lines of stitching that create a narrow loop up the side of the crown. I thought it might be a home made fix of a hole in the felt, but, no, the felt there is fine, it just has this stitching. It is a cool effect, but I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like this before. Thanks in advance.

Real interesting hat there, bruno. I've seen the "twist" ribbon before. Indeed, somewhere around here I have an old Stetson Casual with a faux twist on each side. It's actually two pieces of ribbon on the Stetson, in different colors. It's a pretty cool effect, which I will "borrow" at some point.
As to the stitching ... Hmmm, we've all seen wholly decorative brim edge stitching, a la vintage Stetson Playboys. And we've seen crown stitching in a coil pattern before, too. But the stitching on this one is news to me. Nice hat, though. I dig the proportions.
