these guys have been mentioned before (perhaps in another thread, they sell lots of other accessories) but it's nice to go to a brick and mortar shop.

They have doubles and singles $22.00 and $19.00 respectively. Lots of colors. I got singles, will probably go back for doubles just to see what suits me better

Boy the word garter takes me back!

When I was at school, we had to wear garters (not the sock suspender kind but the good, old elastic loop under where the sock was turned over) to keep our school socks up to our knees. It was a detention worthy crime if you were caught without although if you made a habit of forgetting them it ended up with a caning.

As a highschool student in the 40s l worked in men's haberdashery. On my first day on the job a customer wanted to see some "galoshes" not wanting to look dumb I excused myself and went over to my boss and inquired, what in the the hell are galoshes? (I don't if that's the correct spelling). He informed me it was the old Victorian term for men's garters.

Good day, Frank! I remember galoshes as being rubberized boots that went over my shoes. What do you remember selling to that customer?

I think the fellow was asking for galluses, which is what my grandpa used to call suspenders/braces. I wouldn't doubt that colloquially the term could have been used for garter/suspenders as well. Or it would make sense to me anyway as they are both things that hold other things up.
