Simple solution: Get one of each.
That sounds right to me, but I'm about as far from being an expert as you can get. I'd suggest you contact whichever vendor you're planning on purchasing your hat from (before you buy, that is), give them your head measurement, and ask for their size recommendation.
It was darker than I expected too, but it's a great colour and seems to change depending on the ambient light. The pics were taken in my, quite dark, hallway
